Observations of cavitation on a ducted propeller of a VLCC showed abnormal discrepancies with the cavitation pattern, observed on model scale in comparable conditions. To establish the cause of these discrepancies variations of propeller loading, model wake, nuclei content of the fluid and propeller boundary layer were applied.

In this chapter we remove the assumption made up to now—that the solutions are spatially periodic along the z-axis. We saw in Section II.3 that, for any fixed Reynolds number above criticality, there is an interval of axial wave numbers (mainly denoted by k in this chapter, instead of α) such that the perturbations of the linearized system grow ...

Abstract This note presents a simple extension of the seminal Romer (1990, Journal of Political Economy 98(2), 71–102) paper. Allowing for elasticity of substitution between labor and capital to be different from one (CES production function instead of Cobb–Douglas), the following results are obtained.

The influence of the scale effect on the life of high-density polyethylene specimens with a surface notch has been investigated. In making the notches the condition of geometric similarity was observed. It was established that the life is affected only by sharp notches; as the cross section of the specimen decreases, the value of the Bailey integral ...

Scale Effect and Model Microorganisms
Nature, 1970AERONAUTICAL and nautical engineers often use scaled down models of aeroplanes and ships to predict the behaviour of the full scale versions. The problems of testing a full scale model are obviously enormous and can be avoided because tests on a scaled down model correctly predict the way in which the full scale system will behave, provided that the ...

Patch-scale edge effects do not predict landscape-scale fragmentation effects
2023Negative patch-scale edge effects, where species are more common in habitat interior than edge, are often used as evidence of negative fragmentation effects. This is because, for a given total habitat area, a more fragmented landscape contains less interior habitat.

Scale effects in workplace innovation [PDF]
Workplace innovation can be defined as the implementation of new and combined interventions in work organisation, HRM and supportive technologies, and strategies to improve performance of organisations and quality of jobs. Previous research confirms the presence of a positive relationship between workplace innovation and firm performance.
