Efficient Large-Scale Structured Learning
2013 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2013We introduce an algorithm, SVM-IS, for structured SVM learning that is computationally scalable to very large datasets and complex structural representations. We show that structured learning is at least as fast-and often much faster-than methods based on binary classification for problems such as deformable part models, object detection, and ...

Efficiency of trucks in logistics: technical efficiency and scale efficiency
Asian Journal on Quality, 2010PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to propose a scheme to estimate the technical efficiency of trucks engaged in logistics and to analyze the properties of efficiency. The objectives are to determine individual‐truck level technical efficiency using both radial and non‐radial measures for freight trucks, to calculate the degree of input overuse.Design/

Efficient large-scale BGP simulations
Computer Networks, 2006Simulation has been the method of choice for analyzing large, complex, and highly volatile systems. One of these systems is the inter-domain routing infrastructure of the Internet. Despite the need for high quality Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) simulation tools, traditional BGP simulators have limitations either in their modeling fidelity or in their ...

Scale and Productive Efficiency
1993Abstract One reason for making this distinction is that the sequence of changes in technical practice that may come about with a sequence of scale-technology contractions is compulsive, in the sense that no scale increase is possible unless the technical practice is also changed.

Internet-scale service infrastructure efficiency
Proceedings of the 36th annual international symposium on Computer architecture, 2009High-scale cloud services provide economies of scale of five to ten over small-scale deployments, and are becoming a large part of both enterprise information processing and consumer services. Even very large enterprise IT deployments have quite different cost drivers and optimizations points from internet-scale services.

Efficient Large-Scale Stereo Matching
2011In this paper we propose a novel approach to binocular stereo for fast matching of high-resolution images. Our approach builds a prior on the disparities by forming a triangulation on a set of support points which can be robustly matched, reducing the matching ambiguities of the remaining points.

Every day, over half a billion people log in to Facebook to communicate with their contacts. They exchange more than 300 million photos and more than 3 billion likes and comments each day. And almost every day, Facebook releases new code with new features and products to all these users.

Efficient scaling for complex division
ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software, 2004We develop a simple method for scaling to avoid overflow and harmful underflow in complex division. The method guarantees that no overflow will occur unless at least one component of the quotient must overflow, otherwise the normwise error in the computed result is at most a few units in the last place. Moreover, the scaling requires only four floating

Scale efficiency with fuzzy data
International Journal of Business and Systems Research, 2017This paper measures the scale efficiency of decision-making units (DMUs) with fuzzy input and output data using fuzzy data envelopment analysis (FDEA) model. FDEA is used to measure the relative efficiencies of a set of DMUs under fuzzy environment in which the input and output data can be represented as linguistic variable characterised by fuzzy ...
