Coarse Grained Scale of Turbulent Mixtures
Physical Review Letters, 2006What is the physical length scale which supports the concentration content in a stirred mixture? Among the length scales familiar in stirred mixtures is the dissipation scale which equilibrates substrate deformation and diffusive smearing rates. That scale is a decreasing function of the deformation rate and is, thus, a decreasing function of the ...

SCALE MIXTURES DISTRIBUTIONS IN STATISTICAL MODELLING
Australian & New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 2008SummaryThis paper presents two types of symmetric scale mixture probability distributions which include the normal, Student t, Pearson Type VII, variance gamma, exponential power, uniform power and generalized t (GT) distributions. Expressing a symmetric distribution into a scale mixture form enables efficient Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC ...

Multivariate Scale Mixture of Gaussians Modeling
2006In this paper, we present an approach to generate a class of multivariate probability models, which are referred to as scale mixture of Gaussians models. They are constructed as normal variance mixture models, in which the covariance matrix involves a stochastic scale factor with a given prior distribution.

When a Scale Mixture is Equivalent with Rescaling
Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2002If random variables \(X\) and \(Y\) have the same distribution, we will write \(X\overset\text{d}=Y\). The author is interested in characterizing independent random variables \(X\) and \(\Theta\) such that for some real constant \(c\) the following equality holds: \(X\Theta\overset\text{d}=cX\).

A Scale Mixture Approach to t-Distributed Mixture Regression
2020Mixture of linear regressions frequently assume Gaussian distributions for the mixture components. Data from many applications follows leptokurtic and platykurtic shapes. The use of scale mixtures of distributions from the exponential family (SME) of distributions is considered due to its ability to provide more flexibility in the tail behaviour of a ...

Exploring Pareto scale mixtures
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012Pareto scale mixtures can be used to obtain distributions with heavier tails. An explanation of this model properties is provided, together with a discussion about the parameters estimation. Finally, a real data application is presented, consisting in the larger earthquakes seismic moment modeling.

Scaling and crossover in a fermion-boson mixture
Physical Review B, 1988Thermodynamic behavior of a mixture of weakly interacting fermions and bosons is investigated in 4-\ensuremath{\epsilon} dimensions by the renormalization-group method with the purpose of studying scaling and crossover properties of the system in the tricritical region.
