Approximation properties relative to continuous scale space for hybrid discretisations of Gaussian derivative operators

open access: yesFrontiers in Signal Processing
This paper presents an analysis of properties of two hybrid discretisation methods for Gaussian derivatives, based on convolutions with either the normalised sampled Gaussian kernel or the integrated Gaussian kernel followed by central differences.

Global Distribution of Persistence of Total Electron Content Anomaly

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
To better understand the ionospheric morphology response to lithospheric activities, we study the global location preference of the positive and negative total electron content (TEC) anomalies persisting continuously for longer than 24 h at middle and ...

Scale Selection Properties of Generalized Scale-Space Interest Point Detectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Scale-invariant interest points have found several highly successful applications in computer vision, in particular for image-based matching and recognition.

Fast Frequency Estimation by Zero Crossings of Differential Spline Wavelet Transform

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2005
Zero crossings or extrema of a wavelet transform constitute important signatures for signal analysis with the advantage of great simplicity. In this paper, we introduce a fast frequency-estimation method based on zero-crossing counting in the transform ...

Interest point detection and scale selection in space-time

open access: yes, 2003
. Several types of interest point detectors have been proposed for spatial images. This paper investigates how this notion can be generalised to the detection of interesting events in space-time data.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Derivatives in scale space [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Various derivatives (1st to 4th order) describe different signal characters in scale space: the first derivative represents signal variation which can be used for coding; the second derivative characterizes the size of signal local structure and can be used for adaptive smoothing; the third and fourth order derivatives relate zero-crossing(or other ...

Magnetotail dipolarization and associated current systems observed by Cluster and Double Star [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A dipolarization and its associated current systems are studied using Cluster, Double Star TC1, and ground-based observations. The Cluster spacecraft are located approximately 16 RE downtail near 0030 LT.

Assessment of the impact of a personalised nutrition intervention in impaired glucose regulation over 26 weeks: a randomised controlled trial

open access: yesScientific Reports
Dietary interventions can reduce progression to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in people with non-diabetic hyperglycaemia. In this study we aimed to determine the impact of a DNA-personalised nutrition intervention in people with non-diabetic ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
