Scale invariance without scale selection [PDF]
2008 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2008 In this work we construct scale invariant descriptors (SIDs) without requiring the estimation of image scale; we thereby avoid scale selection which is often unreliable. Our starting point is a combination of log-polar sampling and spatially-varying smoothing that converts image scalings and rotations into translations.

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1996 We consider the thermodynamics of a uniformly charged polyelectrolyte with harmonic bonds. For such a system there is at high temperatures an approximate scaling of global properties like the end-to-end distance and the interaction energy with the chain length divided by the temperature.
