Conformational properties of polymers in anisotropic environments

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2014
We analyze the conformational properties of polymer macromolecules in solutions in presence of extended structural obstacles of (fractal) dimension ϵd causing the anisotropy of environment. Applying the pruned-enriched Rosenbluth method (PERM), we obtain

Rossby and Magnetic Prandtl Number Scaling of Stellar Dynamos

open access: yes, 2019
Rotational scaling relationships are examined for the degree of equipartition between magnetic and kinetic energies in stellar convection zones. These scaling relationships are approached from two paradigms, with first a glance at scaling relationship ...

Scale locality of information flow in turbulence [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Turbulent fluctuations exhibit universal scaling laws that are independent of large-scale statistics. It is often explained that such universality is caused by the loss of information about large-scale statistics during the cascade process. In our previous study [T. Tanogami and R. Araki, Phys. Rev.

Scaling Laws Do Not Scale

open access: yesProceedings of the AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society
Recent work has advocated for training AI models on ever-larger datasets, arguing that as the size of a dataset increases, the performance of a model trained on that dataset will correspondingly increase (referred to as “scaling laws”). In this paper, we draw on literature from the social sciences and machine learning to critically interrogate these ...

The Planck Scale Underpinning for Space Time [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
We provide a rationale for the Planck scale being the minimum scale in the universe, as also its specific numerical values. In the process we answer the question of why the Planck scale is $10^{20}$ times the Compton scale of elementary particles. These considerations show how the Planck scale provides an underpinning for space time.
