A study on the possible usefulness of detrended fluctuation analysis of the electroencephalogram background activity in Alzheimer's disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We studied the EEG background activity of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients with detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA). DFA provides an estimation of the scaling information and long-range correlations in time series. We recorded the EEG in 11 AD patients

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Investigation into voltage and process variation-aware manufacturing test

open access: yes, 2009
Increasing integration and complexity in IC design provides challenges for manufacturing testing. This thesis studies how process and supply voltage variation influence defect behaviour to determine the impact on manufacturing test cost and quality.

Control of mineral scaling in power plant recirculating cooling systems using treated municipal wastewater [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The global energy demand is projected to increase by 77% from 2006 to 2030 along with a projected 38% increase in freshwater withdrawal for cooling in power industry. Finding alternative sources of water for cooling has become essential for future energy

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Influence of parasitic capacitance variations on 65 nm and 32 nm predictive technology model SRAM core-cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The continuous improving of CMOS technology allows the realization of digital circuits and in particular static random access memories that, compared with previous technologies, contain an impressive number of transistors.

Interpretation of the Result of a Traditional Salt-Frost Scaling Test

open access: yesNordic Concrete Research
Frost damage on the concrete surface might be aggravated when freezing occurs in the presence of a salt solution, like sea water or de-icing salt. A possible mechanism behind this combination of frost and salt is discussed.
