Anesthetic management with scalp nerve block and propofol/remifentanil infusion during awake craniotomy in an adolescent patient -A case report- [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2010
Despite of various neurophysiologic monitoring methods under general anesthesia, functional mapping at awake state during brain surgery is helpful for conservation of speech and motor function.

Awake craniotomy using dexmedetomidine and scalp blocks: a retrospective cohort study [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Anesthesia/Journal canadien d'anesthésie, 2018
Anesthetic and surgical considerations for awake craniotomy (AC) include airway patency, patient comfort, and optimization of real-time brain mapping. The purpose of this study is to report our experience of using dexmedetomidine and scalp blocks, without airway intervention, as a means to facilitate and optimize intraoperative brain mapping and brain ...

Structural Polymorphism of polyG Inclusions Revealed by In Situ Cryo‐Electron Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Correlative cryo‐electron tomography in primary cortical neurons and NIID mouse brain tissue reveals that polyG inclusions are interconnected ribbon‐like assemblies rather than canonical amyloid fibrils. Multiple compartment‐specific ribbon states show distinct 26S proteasome accessibility, while cytoplasmic ribbons contact and deform ER‐like ...

The First Awake Craniotomy for Seizure Focus Resection in Iran 2016

open access: yesAdvanced Biomedical Research, 2018
Patient with refractory seizure may undergo awake craniotomy when the area to be resected is immediately adjacent to eloquent cortex. An awake craniotomy in a 30-year-old man was conducted using a scalp block, dexmedetomidine, and remifentanil infusion ...

Independent component analysis of interictal fMRI in focal epilepsy: comparison with general linear model-based EEG-correlated fMRI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The general linear model (GLM) has been used to analyze simultaneous EEG–fMRI to reveal BOLD changes linked to interictal epileptic discharges (IED) identified on scalp EEG. This approach is ineffective when IED are not evident in the EEG.

Polydopamine Nanoparticle‐Mediated Precise Near‐Infrared Optical Stimulation for Cognitive Enhancement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Polydopamine nanoparticles enable a precise, non‐genetic, and transcranial neuromodulation strategy via near‐infrared photothermal stimulation. By activating TRPV1 channels, this approach specifically enhances hippocampal gamma oscillations, thereby rescuing spatial memory deficits in models of perioperative neurocognitive disorder.

Preserving Motor Features by Alternative Re‐Referencing to Remove Heart Artifact on the Stentrode

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Endovascular brain‐computer interfaces record neural activity from within cerebrovasculature, at the expense of electrocardiogram contamination. Band‐limited independent component analysis separates this heart‐based artifact from task‐relevant neural activity in each frequency band, enabling the reconstruction of cleaner neural recordings without the ...

Effects of avoiding neuromuscular blocking agents during maintenance of anaesthesia on recovery characteristics in patients undergoing craniotomy for supratentorial lesions: A randomised controlled study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2017
Background and Aims: Neuromuscular blocking agents have been one of the cornerstones of anaesthesia. With the advent of newer surgical, anaesthetic and neurological monitoring techniques, their utility in neuroanaesthesia practice seems dispensable.

HD‐tDCS Restores Perivascular AQP4 Polarization via PPARγ Modulation to Enhance Glymphatic Clearance After Intracerebral Hemorrhage in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
HD‐tDCS promotes recovery after intracerebral hemorrhage by enhancing PPARγ‐dependent astrocyte remodeling in a mouse model of ICH. This process suppresses proinflammatory astrocytic activation, restores perivascular AQP4 repolarization, and improves glymphatic influx and efflux, thereby facilitating hematoma and perihematomal edema clearance and ...
