Most MmpLs transport lipids and glycolipids of the complex mycomembrane of mycobacteria. This study shows that MmpL10 from Mycobacterium smegmatis, the transporter of the trehalose polyphosphate precursor, harbors a coiled‐coil‐like extension. Biochemical and electron microscopy studies demonstrate that the coiled‐coil enables MmpL10 to trimerize.

Teaching Microscopy Remotely: Two Engaging Options
The rapid switch to remote teaching with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced educators to become resourceful and creative to meet course learning objectives. This was especially challenging for undergraduate microbiology laboratory exercises.

Combined scanning force microscopy and scanning tunneling spectroscopy of an electronic nano-circuit at very low temperature [PDF]
We demonstrate the combination of scanning force microscopy and scanning tunneling spectroscopy in a local probe microscope operating at very low temperature (60 mK). This local probe uses a quartz tuning fork ensuring high tunnel junction stability. We performed the spatially-resolved spectroscopic study of a superconducting nano-circuit patterned on ...

CNS Mitochondria‐Derived Vesicle in Blood: Potential Biomarkers for Brain Mitochondria Dysfunction
ABSTRACT Objective Mitochondrial dysfunction is a hallmark of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's (AD) and Parkinson's (PD). Our goal was to develop practical, noninvasive methods to assess mitochondrial status through the detection of mitochondria‐derived vesicles (MDVs).

Scanning ultrafast electron microscopy [PDF]
Progress has been made in the development of four-dimensional ultrafast electron microscopy, which enables space-time imaging of structural dynamics in the condensed phase. In ultrafast electron microscopy, the electrons are accelerated, typically to 200

Scanning electron microscope studies of Avena coleoptiles during primary leaf emergence
A scanning electron microscope study of the fine structure of coleoptiles of Avena sativa L. cv. Clintford has revealed information about the relationship between aspects of coleoptilar structure and the emergence of the primary leaf. Stomata are located

Scanning magnetic field microscope with a diamond single-spin sensor [PDF]
We describe a scanning device where a single spin is used as an ultrasensitive, nanoscale magnetic field sensor. As this "probe spin" we consider a single nitrogen-vacancy defect center in a diamond nanocrystal, attached to the tip of the scanning device.

Hypoxia promotes the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells via the SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐autophagy pathway, thereby resulting in the fibrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells. Activation of SIRT1 or induction of autophagy inhibits this process, alleviating hypoxia‐induced fibrosis.

Low Temperature Nanoscale Electronic Transport on the MoS_2 surface [PDF]
Two-probe electronic transport measurements on a Molybdenum Disulphide (MoS_2) surface were performed at low temperature (30K) under ultra-high vacuum conditions. Two scanning tunneling microscope tips were precisely positioned in tunneling contact to measure the surface current-voltage characteristics.
