In previous work, UEA1 and UCSC1, two geographically distinct, powdery mildew isolates, were recognized for their ability to infect Arabidopsis thaliana. We have clarified the identity of these isolates by determining their host ranges, reexamining their

Noise2Atom: unsupervised denoising for scanning transmission electron microscopy images
We propose an effective deep learning model to denoise scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) image series, named Noise2Atom, to map images from a source domain S $\mathcal {S}$ to a target domain C $\mathcal {C}$ , where S $\mathcal {S}$ is ...

Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is the most preferred method in microstructural analysis today. In this method, electrons accelerated by high voltage (0-30 kV) are focused on the sample. During the scanning of the surface of this focused electron beam, electrons and material atoms interact. Electrons and X-rays formed as a result of this interaction

Hyla versicolor-chrysoscelis Species Complex of Gray Treefrogs in Arkansas: Histological and Ultrastructural evidence [PDF]
We investigated the Hyla versicolor-chrysoscelis species complex (tetraploid and diploid species, respectively) of cryptic gray treefrogs from Arkansas using light and scanning electron microscopy.

Single-crystal silver nanowires: Preparation and Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) property
Ordered Ag nanowire arrays with high aspect ratio and high density self-supporting Ag nanowire patterns were successfully prepared using potentiostatic electrodeposition within the confined nanochannels of a commercial porous anodic aluminium oxide (AAO)

Future Prospects of 3D Human Chromosome Imaging by Serial Block Face Scanning Electron Microscopy [PDF]
The higher order structure of human chromosomes remains to be elucidated with the 30 nm mystery still remaining. For internal structure determination, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) cannot be used as the chromosomes are too thick (approx.

A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

Synthesis of NiO nanowalls by thermal treatment of Ni film deposited onto a stainless steel substrate [PDF]
Two-dimensional nanostructures have a variety of applications due to their large surface areas. In this study, the authors present a simple and convenient method to realize two-dimensional NiO nanowalls by thermal treatment of a Ni thin film deposited ...
