Impact of topology on Bluetooth Scatternet [PDF]

To utilize Bluetooth as a layer 2 multi‐hop subnet for global IP network, there are two missing protocols in current Bluetooth stack: network formation and routing. In this paper, we propose our network formation and routing protocols optimized for such Bluetooth subnset usage scenarios to fill this gap.

An On-Demand Bluetooth Scatternet Formation Algorithm [PDF]

In this paper, we propose the On-Demand Bluetooth scatternet formation algorithm (ODBT). ODBT characterizes an ad hoc infrastructure with a tree topology. It is able to cope with topology changes due to either leaving or moving Bluetooth devices, as well as with devices that dynamically join the scatternet. It can support out-of-range devices.

The constraints and properties of Bluetooth scatternets present special challenges in forming an ad hoc network efficiently. We present and analyse a new randomized distributed algorithm for Bluetooth scatternet formation. We prove that our algorithm achieves O(log n)
