A Dynamic and Distributed Scatternet Formation Protocol for Real-life Bluetooth Scatternets
Proceedings of the 38th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2005Bluetooth is a universal radio interface for short-range wireless networks. The basic Bluetooth network topology is a single-hop star-shaped piconet. Several such piconets can be interconnected into a scatternet to form a wireless ad hoc network. This paper proposes a dynamic and distributed protocol to the Bluetooth scatternet formation problem.

An evolutionary Bluetooth scatternet formation protocol
37th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2004. Proceedings of the, 2004Wireless technologies such as 802.11 do not impose topology constraints on the network; however, Bluetooth imposes certain constraints for constructing valid topologies. The performance of Bluetooth depends largely on these topologies. This paper presents and evaluates the performance of a new evolutionary scatternet topology construction protocol for ...

Distributed Bluetooth scatternet formation algorithm
GLOBECOM '03. IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37489), 2004Bluetooth is a short range communication technology in which devices communicate in a master-slave fashion within a piconet. Several piconets interconnect via gateway devices to form a scatternet. This paper introduces a greedy approach to scatternet tree and mesh formation which tries to minimize the number of piconets at each iterative step.

Scatternet Formation for IEEE 802.15.3 WPANs
IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, 2006In this paper, we consider the unique properties of the scatternet formation problem for IEEE 802.15.3 wireless personal area networks and formulate it as a set covering problem. We propose a fully distributed stochastic scatternet formation algorithm and compare its performance against a greedy algorithm and idealized best/worst case scenarios.

Bluenet - a new scatternet formation scheme
Proceedings of the 35th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2003Bluetooth is a novel promising local area wireless technology designed to enable voice and data communication among various electronic devices. We believe that Bluetooth networks will provide reliable, flexible and cost-efficient telecommunication support for the post-deregulation electric power systems.

On-demand formation of Bluetooth scatternet
MILCOM 2002. Proceedings, 2003Contention based MAC protocols like IEEE 802. 11 have been shown to perform badly in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks. Immediate alternative approaches are contention-free MAC protocols such as fixed TDMA and CDMA. The Bluetooth scatternet structure, integrating polling scheme and FHSS in its MAC layer, provides a contention-free environment for ...

Assessing bluetooth scatternet formation
IEEE 60th Vehicular Technology Conference, 2004. VTC2004-Fall. 2004, 2005The interconnection of piconets in Bluetooth networking has received considerable attention, as surveyed in Whitaker et al. (2004). Whilst a variety of scatternet formation protocols have been proposed, a persistent problem is the comparison of protocol performance, and the quality of the Bluetooth network produced.

A self‐organising protocol for Bluetooth scatternet formation
European Transactions on Telecommunications, 2005AbstractWe propose a self‐organising protocol for Bluetooth topology construction in which scatternet structures are maintained even in the presence of dynamic perturbation of network configuration. The protocol does not require the presence of a central topology construction or re‐construction process.

Bluetooth scatternet formation for supporting device mobility
ITRE 2005. 3rd International Conference on Information Technology: Research and Education, 2005., 2005Since most of the Bluetooth devices are portable, the user may bring the Bluetooth devices and roams in the range of a scatternet. Thus, the capability of formatting Bluetooth scatternet under device mobility impacts on the survivability and feasibility of the Bluetooth network.

Bluetooth scatternet formation: criteria, models and classification
2003 International Symposium on VLSI Technology, Systems and Applications. Proceedings of Technical Papers. (IEEE Cat. No.03TH8672), 2004Bluetooth ad hoc networks are constrained by a master/slave configuration, in which one device takes the role of master and controls the communication with the slave devices. Piconets are small Bluetooth networks containing one master and up to seven active slave devices.
