The Role of Macrophage Scavenger Receptor Class B, Type 1 (SR-BI) in the development of Atheroscelerosis in Apolipoprotein E Deficient Mice

2003
The high density lipoprotein (HDL) receptor Scavenger Receptor, Class B, Type I (SRBI) is a 509 amino acid integral membrane protein which has been shown to have an important role in HDL-mediated reverse cholesterol transport. SR-BI has been shown to mediate selective uptake of cholesterol, and also mediates efflux of cholesterol to HDL as seen in in ...

Role of Apolipoprotein E, Scavenger Receptor class B type I and ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter G1 in Reverse Cholesterol Transport and atherosclerosis

2013
Several epidemiological studies established that HDL cholesterol inversely correlates with the incidence of cardiovascular events. HDL mainly exerts this atheroprotective function by promoting Reverse Cholesterol Transport (RCT) from cholesterol-loaded macrophages of the arterial wall to the liver.
