Methicillin‐Resistant Coagulase‐Negative Staphylococci in the Community: High Homology of SCCmec IVa betweenStaphylococcus epidermidisand Major Clones of Methicillin‐ResistantStaphylococcus aureus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background. Data on community spread of methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci (MR-CoNS) are scarce. We assessed their potential role as a reservoir of staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) IVa, the leading SCCmec subtype in ...

Nasopharyngeal Carriage Rate, Risk Factors, and Co‐Resistance Patterns of Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Ethiopia: Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
This systematic review and meta‐analysis show that nasopharyngeal carriage of methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus remains an important public health concern in Ethiopia. High resistance to commonly used antibiotics and significant associations with prior hospitalization and antibiotic use highlight the need for strengthened antimicrobial ...

Prevalence, Genetic Diversity, and Temporary Shifts of Inducible Clindamycin Resistance Staphylococcus aureus Clones in Tehran, Iran: A Molecular–Epidemiological Analysis From 2013 to 2018

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
The prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus as an aggressive pathogen resistant to multiple antibiotics causing nosocomial and community-acquired infections is increasing with limited therapeutic options.

Antibacterial Effect of the In Vitro Interaction Between Clotrimazole and Chlorhexidine Against Staphylococcus pseudintermedius With Known Resistance Patterns Isolated From Canine Pyoderma

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
The 2:1 chlorhexidine–clotrimazole combination demonstrated enhanced antibacterial activity against canine Staphylococcus pseudintermedius isolates, including resistant strains. Reduced MIC values, predominantly additive interactions and absence of antagonism support its use as a promising topical strategy for canine pyoderma management.

Increased Incidence and Plasma-Biofilm Formation Ability of SCCmec Type IV Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Isolated From Patients With Bacteremia

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2021
In Japan, Staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) type IV methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is an increasingly prominent cause of bacteremia, but the virulence of most of these strains is unclear.

When First‐Line Therapies Fail: Surgical Site Infections and the Declining Antimicrobial Utility in a Resource‐Limited Nation

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
In Belize, a 7‐year nationwide study reveals a sharp rise in antimicrobial resistance in surgical infections. ESBL‐producing bacteria more than doubled to > 45%, with critical treatment gaps and geographic hotspots identified. Sentinel pan‐drug‐resistant cases and a correlation between antibiotic use and resistance underscore the urgent need for ...

The identification and characterization of a clinical isolate of a methicillin susceptible Staphylococcus aureus ST612 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Includes bibliographical references.A previous study of 100 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates, collected between January 2007 and December 2008 from five Cape Town hospitals, identified ST612-MRSA-IV as the predominant MRSA ...

Characterization of Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec Elements from Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius Infections in Australian Animals

open access: yesmSphere, 2018
We examined the oxacillin resistance phenotype and genomic structure of staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) elements from 77 veterinary methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP) isolates.
