Variability of SCCmec elements in livestock-associated CC398 MRSA

open access: yesVeterinary Microbiology, 2018
The most common livestock-associated lineage of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Western Europe is currently clonal complex (CC) 398. CC398-MRSA spread extensively across livestock populations in several Western European countries, and livestock-derived CC398-MRSA strains can also be detected in humans.

Community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus from ST1 lineage harboring a new SCCmec IV subtype (SCCmec IVm) containing the tetK gene.

open access: yesInfection and drug resistance, 2018
A pivotal event in the evolutionary path of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is the acquisition of the staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) element carrying the mecA gene, the determinant of methicillin resistance. Community-acquired (CA) MRSA is commonly associated with skin/soft tissue infections, and doxycycline is one ...

Risk Factors Associated With Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Infections in Patients With Diabetic Foot Ulcers in Tehran. [PDF]

open access: yesCan J Infect Dis Med Microbiol
Background Foot ulcer is a common complication of diabetes mellitus, which is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates among diabetic patients. This study aimed to identify risk factors associated with methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (S.

Of Commensals and Opportunists: Genomics of Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci During Sequential Ear and Eye Infections in a Healthy Adult. [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiologyopen
The genomes of coagulase‐negative staphylococci (CoNS) isolated during sequential ear and eye infections in a healthy adult are analyzed. We highlight the identification of a community‐acquired S. capitis subsp. urealyticus ST1 lineage carrying a mosaic SCCmec IV element, linking common skin commensals to multidrug‐resistant strains associated with ...

Distribution of SCCmec-associated phenol-soluble modulin in staphylococci [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Probes, 2012
The recently described phenol-soluble modulin PSM-mec was detected in Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus fleuretti, Staphylococcus hominis, Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Staphylococcus simulans and Staphylococcus vitulinus from different hosts (humans, goats, dogs, cats, pigs, cattle and ...

Cross-species spread of SCCmec IV subtypes in staphylococci [PDF]

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2011
Staphylococcal chromosomal cassette mec (SCCmec) is a mobile genetic element that carries resistance genes for beta-lactam antibiotics. Coagulase-negative staphylococci, such as S. epidermidis, are thought to be a reservoir of diverse SCCmec elements that can spread to the most virulent staphylococcal species, S.

Diversity of staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) types among methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci (MR-CoNS)

open access: yes, 2022
Methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci (MR-CoNS) have become one of the important causes of nosocomial infections yet their clinical data in Malaysia is scarce compared to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Staphylococcal

One Health Genomic Analysis of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus spp. From Humans, Cats, and Dogs in a Veterinary Hospital in Central Chile. [PDF]

open access: yesZoonoses Public Health
ABSTRACT Introduction The emergence of methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus species (MRS) poses a growing threat to both human and veterinary health. Methods We performed a comparative genomic characterisation of 49 methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus isolates collected from humans, dogs, and cats in a veterinary hospital from Central Chile.

IDENTIFICATION OF SCCMEC TYPE IN ISOLATE OF METHICILLIN RESISTANT Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) IN JAMBI BY USING POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION (PCR)

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Tropical and Infectious Disease, 2020
Staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) is one of the mobile genetic elements of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) that carries many resistance genes and allows SCCmec to move from one bacterium to another. Twelve types of SCCmec
