An adaptive self‐scheduling loop scheduler

open access: yesConcurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, 2021
AbstractMany shared‐memory parallel irregular applications, such as sparse linear algebra and graph algorithms, depend on efficient loop scheduling (LS) in a fork‐join manner despite that the work per loop iteration can greatly vary depending on the application and the input. Because of the importance of LS, many different methods (e.g., workload‐aware

Scheduling the scheduling task: a time-management perspective on scheduling [PDF]

open access: yesCognition, Technology & Work, 2017
L'objectif de cette étude était de caractériser la façon dont les planificateurs passent leur temps à interagir avec des parties externes. Le temps est la ressource la plus critique à la disposition des planificateurs ; cependant, son utilisation a été négligée par des études empiriques antérieures.

Mapping, Scheduling, and Schedulability Analysis

open access: yes, 2022
This chapter presents how the P-SOCRATES framework addresses the issue of scheduling multiple real-time tasks (RT tasks), made of multiple and concurrent non-preemptable task parts. In its most generic form, the scheduling problem in the architectural framework is a dual problem: scheduling task-to-threads, and scheduling thread-to-core replication.

Widening the Schedulability of Hierarchical Scheduling Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper presents a compositional approach for schedulability analysis of hierarchical systems, which enables to prove more systems schedulable by having richer and more detailed scheduling models. We use a lightweight method (statistical model checking) for design exploration, easily assuring high confidence in the correctness of the model.

Sales-Based Models for Resource Management and Scheduling in Artificial Intelligence Systems

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings, 2023
Recent trends have shown a greatly increasing number of users in the digital world, so there is a need for a large number of resources. To handle these resources, there is the need to manage and schedule in an optimized manner using artificial ...

Fairness in Scheduling

open access: yesJournal of Algorithms, 1998
Summary: On-line machine scheduling has been studied extensively, but the fundamental issue of fairness in scheduling is still mostly open. In this paper, we explore the issue in settings where there are long-lived processes which should be repeatedly scheduled for various tasks throughout the lifetime of a system.

Acquisition and validation of expert knowledge for high-mix and low-volume production scheduling problems

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2023
The application of a cyber physical system (CPS) in a production system to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its operation is called a cyber physical production system (CPPS).

Controlling understaffing with conditional Value-at-Risk constraint for an integrated nurse scheduling problem under patient demand uncertainty

open access: yesOperations Research Perspectives, 2019
Nursing workforce management is a challenging decision-making task in hospitals. The decisions are made across different timescales and levels from strategic long-term staffing budget to mid-term scheduling.
