A review of scheduling strategies

1994
Scheduling is an important activity within FC and PAC. Research in scheduling has absorbed the creative talents of many academics over the past thirty years or so. Despite the numerous developments in scheduling, a common complaint from shop floor personnel is that scheduling techniques and solutions developed by academic researchers are ‘out of touch’

Safety scheduling strategies in distributed computing

International Journal of Critical Computer-Based Systems, 2010
In this paper, we present an approach to safety scheduling in distributed computing based on strategies of resource co-allocation for complex sets of tasks (jobs). The necessity of guaranteed job execution until the time limits requires taking into account the distributed environment dynamics, namely, changes in the number of jobs for servicing ...

Impact of the Scheduling Strategy in Heterogeneous Systems That Provide Co-Scheduling

2017
For many years, the number of processing units per compute node is increasing significantly. For utilizing all or most of the available compute resources of a high-performance computing cluster, at least some of its nodes will have to be shared by several applications at the same time. Even if jobs are co-scheduled on a node, it can happen that compute

Scheduling strategies for HPC as a service (HPCaaS)

2009 IEEE International Conference on Cluster Computing and Workshops, 2009
One of the main advantages of HPC clusters is the flexibility and efficiency they bring to their user. With the increasing number of applications being served by HPC systems, new systems need to serve multiple users and multiple applications. Traditional HPC systems typically served a single application at a given time, but to maintain maximum ...

Scheduling strategies and speculative work

1991
This paper gives a short report on the current state of our research into scheduling speculative tasks in the Aurora or-parallel Prolog system. A Speculative task is one that may be pruned by a cut or commit, rendering any work done on that task to be wasted.

Experimental Results for Stackelberg Scheduling Strategies

2005
In large scale networks users often behave selfishly trying to minimize their routing cost. Modelling this as a noncooperative game, may yield a Nash equilibrium with unboundedly poor network performance. To measure this inefficacy, the Coordination Ratio or Price of Anarchy (PoA) was introduced.

Detoxification from benzodiazepines: Schedules and strategies

Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment, 1991
Management of benzodiazepine (BZD) tolerance is divided into low- and high-dose withdrawal. Low-dose withdrawal includes patients who have received manufacturer-recommended doses of BZD on a daily basis for longer than 1 month. Gradual tapering of the BZD over 4 weeks on an outpatient basis is suggested.

A New Docker Swarm Scheduling Strategy

2017 IEEE 7th International Symposium on Cloud and Service Computing (SC2), 2017
This paper presents our initial ideas for a new scheduling strategy integrated in the Docker Swarm scheduler. The aim of this paper is to introduce the basic concepts and the implementation details of a new scheduling strategy based on different Service Level Agreement (SLA) classes. This strategy is proposed to answer to the problems of companies that

Job scheduling strategies for networks of workstations

1998
In this paper we first introduce the concepts of utilisation ratio and effective speedup and their relations to the system performance. We then describe a two-level scheduling scheme which can be used to achieve good performance for parallel jobs and good response for interactive sequential jobs and also to balance both parallel and sequential ...

Evaluation of Coordinated Grid Scheduling Strategies

2009 11th IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing and Communications, 2009
Grid computing has emerged as a way to share geographically and organizationally distributed resources that may belong to different institutions or administrative domains. In this context, the scheduling and resource management is usually performed by a grid resource broker.
