Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Robust Optimal Scheduling Strategy for Virtual Power Plant Participation in Electric Energy and Demand Response Markets Under Multiple Uncertainties

open access: yes发电技术
ObjectivesTo address the uncertainties of renewable energy output and load faced by virtual power plant (VPP) when participating in electric energy and demand response markets, a robust optimal scheduling strategy considering multiple uncertainties was ...

A Dynamic Scheduling Method of Earth-Observing Satellites by Employing Rolling Horizon Strategy

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
Focused on the dynamic scheduling problem for earth-observing satellites (EOS), an integer programming model is constructed after analyzing the main constraints. The rolling horizon (RH) strategy is proposed according to the independent arriving time and

A Decentralized On-Line Scheduling Strategy for FMS

open access: yesIFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1990
Abstract The paper deals with the scheduling problem in production units which consist of several subsystems, e. g. workshops or flexible manufacturing cells. A two-layer architecture is proposed were on the local level intelligent control units perform an optimization, and the upper-level scheduler coordinates the subsystems.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Dynamic scheduling strategy and algorithm for mixed batch scheduling in vacuum freeze-dried fruit processes

open access: yesProduction Engineering Archives
Vacuum freeze-dried fruit processes consisting of heating and holding are modelled as a mixed batch scheduling with the objective of minimizing the makespan. The jobs differ from each other in job family, size, weight and ready time. The batch processing

A Novel SAT-Based Approach to the Task Graph Cost-Optimal Scheduling Problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Task Graph Cost-Optimal Scheduling Problem consists in scheduling a certain number of interdependent tasks onto a set of heterogeneous processors (characterized by idle and running rates per time unit), minimizing the cost of the entire process. This

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Power-constrained block-test list scheduling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A list scheduling approach is proposed in this paper to overcome the problem of unequal-length block-test scheduling under power dissipation constraints. An extended tree growing technique is also used in combination with the list scheduling algorithm in

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...
