Benefits of Condensed Tannins in Forage Legumes Fed to Ruminants: Importance of Structure, Concentration, and Diet Composition

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 59, Issue 3, Page 861-885, May–June 2019., 2019
Condensed tannins (CTs) account for up to 20% of the dry matter in forage legumes used as ruminant feeds. Beneficial animal responses to CTs have included improved growth, milk and wool production, fertility, and reduced methane emissions and ammonia volatilization from dung or urine.

Progeny performance and pathogen attack relative to elevation in a neotropical tree [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Climate and resource availability at the parent tree location are known to explain progeny characteristics; however, few studies have examined the role of resistance or tolerance to pathogens, even though climate is a main driver of pathogen abundance ...

Polymeric Nanoparticle Associated with Ceftriaxone and Extract of Schinopsis Brasiliensis Engler against Multiresistant Enterobacteria [PDF]

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2020
Bacterial resistance has become an important public health problem. Bacteria have been acquiring mechanisms to resist the action of antimicrobial active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). Based on this, a promising alternative is the use of nanotechnology, since when the systems are presented in nanometric size, there is an increase in the interaction ...

Litter Dynamics and Nutrient Stocks in a Chronosequence of Hyperxerophilous Forest Under the Effect of Clear Felling

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
We investigated litter accumulation and nutrient stocks across a forest regeneration chronosequence in hyperxerophilous Caatinga following clear‐cutting. Using multivariate statistics and structural decomposition indices, we identified functional litter profiles and their association with nutrient cycling and soil resilience. Our findings highlight how

Gender and Its Role in the Resilience of Local Medical Systems of the Fulni‐ô People in NE Brazil: Effects on Structure and Functionality

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Ethnobotanical studies focused on understanding how local medical systems are functionally maintained suggest that utilitarian redundancy and knowledge transmission are factors that influence the resilience of the system. However, to date, there have not been any studies that analyze these factors in relation to the variables that influence the ...

Multiplication, morphogenesis and foliar abscision of Schinopsis brasiliensis Engl. in vitro

open access: yesBoletin Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Plantas Medicinales y Aromaticas, 2023
The objective was to evaluate plant growth regulators and ethylene inhibitors on the development and leaf abscission of Schinopsis brasiliensis Engl. Zeatin (ZEA) was evaluated in concentrations combined with concentrations of indolacetic acid (IAA), naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and indolbutyric acid (IBA).

The Use of Flocculation as a Preconcentration Step in the Microalgae Harvesting Process

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 177, Issue 4, July/August 2025.
ABSTRACT Flocculation is a widely utilized separation technique in colloid chemistry, the chemical industry, and wastewater treatment. However, its application in microalgal biomass production and downstream processing remains limited. Biomass harvesting represents a significant cost factor in large‐scale microalgae production, with the separation of ...

Tannins and Bacitracin Differentially Modulate Gut Microbiota of Broiler Chickens

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Antibiotic growth promoters have been used for decades in poultry farming as a tool to maintain bird health and improve growth performance. Global concern about the recurrent emergence and spreading of antimicrobial resistance is challenging the livestock producers to search for alternatives to feed added antibiotics.
