Replicated Differential Expression Analysis in a Green-Brown Polymorphic Grasshopper Reveals Role of Beta-Carotene-Binding Protein in Body Coloration. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Ecol
ABSTRACT Orthoptera provide a well‐documented case of transspecies colour polymorphism, with green and brown morphs coexisting in many species. This colour polymorphism is likely under long‐term balancing selection, but the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying the variation remain poorly understood.

Transcriptomic Analysis and Comparative Analysis of Gene Families Related to Environmental Adaptation in Two Grylloblattodea Species: Galloisiana sinensis and Grylloprimevala jilina. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Notoptera, a singular ancient insect lineage, is vital for exploring insect environmental adaptation, evolution, and its geological history link, recognized as a national first‐class protected animal. Comparing environmental adaptation genes in Galloisiana sinensis and Grylloprimevala jilina, closely related yet habitat‐disparate species, illuminates ...

Schistocerca neuropeptides – An update

open access: yesJournal of Insect Physiology, 2022
We compiled a comprehensive list of 67 precursor genes encoding neuropeptides and neuropeptide-like peptides using the Schistocerca gregaria genome and several transcriptome datasets. 11 of these 67 precursor genes have alternative transcripts, bringing the total number of S. gregaria precursors identified in this study to 81.

Differential gene expression in Chorthippus parallelus (Zetterstedt, 1821) (Orthoptera: Acrididae: Gomphocerinae) induced by Wolbachia infection. [PDF]

open access: yesInsect Sci
Distinct lineages of the grasshopper Chorthippus parallelus (Orthoptera: Acrididae) form a well‐known hybrid zone (HZ) in the Pyrenees mountain range; the Iberian endemism C. p. erythropus (Cpe) and the subspecies C. p. parallelus, (Cpp) widely distributed throughout the rest of Europe. Both subspecies differ in diverse traits, including the strains of

How Does a Delicate Insect Wing Resist Damage? Chitin Orientation Is Adapted to the Mechanical Demands at the Nanoscale. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Mater
Nanoscale chitin fiber orientations in the insect wing play a critical role in adapting to complex mechanical demands. These findings reveal two distinct and functionally adaptive chitin orientation patterns in the membranes that vary regionally, optimizing mechanical resilience and deformation control.

Ultrastructural changes in the fat body of desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria (Orthoptera: Acrididae) treated with zinc chromium oxide nanostructures via chemical co-precipitation approach

open access: yesBMC Chemistry, 2023
The present work aims to investigate the ultrastructural changes in the fat body of fifth instar nymphs Schistocerca gregaria (Orthoptera: Acrididae) treated with zinc chromium oxide (ZnCrO).

A South African Scenario: Structure and Function of Peptides of the Adipokinetic Hormone Family of the Brown Locust, Locustana pardalina, and the Putative Role of These Peptides in Plague Management. [PDF]

open access: yesArch Insect Biochem Physiol
1. The brown locust produces the three adipokinetic hormones Locmi‐AKH‐I, ‐II and ‐III found also in the migratory locust. 2. Flight is characterised by differential changes in haemolymph carbohydrate and lipid levels. 3. Modelling ligand‐receptor binding is proposed as important step to a new strategy to combat the brown locust.

La amebiasis debilitativa de los ortópteros y su potencial para el control biológico de acridios (Orthoptera: Acridoidea)en la Argentina [PDF]

open access: yesRIA: Revista Investigaciones Agropecuarias, 2002
Malameba locustae, el agente etiológico de la amebiasis debilitativa de los ortópteros, es causante de patologías en los tubos de Malpighi y alteraciones en la función excretora que llevan a disminuciones de vigor, longevidad y fecundidad del hospedador

American locust (Schistocerca americana) post-exercise lactate fate dataset

open access: yesData in Brief, 2021
The fate of lactate after exercise varies between animal groups. In ectothermic vertebrates, lactate is primarily converted to glycogen in the muscle. In mammals, lactate is intramuscularly oxidized or converted to glycogen in the muscle and/or liver. In
