Actinomycin-D and chiasma frequency in Schistocerca gregaria (Forskl)
Chromosoma, 1970The response of chiasma frequency to a high dose of Actinomycin-D (60 μg/insect) was studied in male imagines of Schistocerca gregaria. Two stocks of locust were employed, one possessing a reduced chiasma frequency as a result of inbreeding. The high dose of AD caused rapid insect mortality, which limited the period of sampling to only 36 hours after ...

Studies on the kynurenine-3-hydroxylase of Schistocerca gregaria
Insect Biochemistry, 1974Abstract The kynurenine-3-hydroxylase (E.C. 1.99.1.5) of different tissues of Schistocerca gregaria was studied. This enzyme was found only in the eyes and in the integument. Experiments on subcellular fractions of the epidermal cells showed that the enzyme is localized in the mitochondrial fraction (membranes?).

Studies on tryptophan pyrrolase of Schistocerca gregaria försk. (Orthoptera)
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, 1966Abstract 1. The trytophan pyrrolase activity of central fat bodies of S. gregoria hoppera was studied. 2. The enzyme system appears to be similar to that of mammalian liver. 3. The enzyme was localized only in central fat bodies. 4. Extracts of other body parts can mimic an enzyme activity because of a degradation of ommochromes in ...

Neurosecretory control of ovarian development in Schistocerca gregaria
Journal of Cell Science, 1962ABSTRACT Cautery of the neurosecretory cells of the pars intercerebralis, or removal of the corpora cardiaca, will prevent the development of the terminal oocytes in the ovaries of the desert locust. Implantation of brains into females whose neurosecretory cells have been cauterized results in some development of the terminal oocytes ...

Pheromones in Schistocerca gregaria (Forsk.): the present situation
1997Summary Chemical signals play an important role in species-specific communication of Acrididae, and the following were observed in Schistocerca gregaria: accelerated maturation among grouped immature adults in the presence of a single mature (yellow) male; stimulation of egg pod deposition among virgin females separated from males by a perforated foil;
