Congenital Infection with Schistosoma japonicum but not with Schistosoma bovis in Sheep [PDF]

open access: possibleThe Journal of Parasitology, 2002
The present study investigated whether Schistosoma japonicum or Schistosoma bois could establish prenatally in lambs. Three ewes were exposed to S. japonicum by intramuscular injection of cercariae, and 3 ewes were exposed to S. bovis cercariae using the leg-emerging technique approximately 2 mo before delivery, and 1 age-matched pregnant ewe served as

Is there Immunity to Schistosoma japonicum?

Parasitology Today, 2000
The Oriental schistosome, Schistosoma japonicum, unlike the other two major schistosomes that infect humans (S. mansoni and S. haematobium), is a zoonotic species. The transmission dynamics and the potential effects of host-related regulatory factors, including immunity, are likely to be distinct for this parasite.

Cyclophilin of Schistosoma japonicum

The Journal of Parasitology, 1992
A 623-bp cDNA molecule encoding cyclophilin, a specific cyclosporin A-binding protein, has been isolated from Schistosoma japonicum using a heterologous cDNA probe from Echinococcus granulosus. The nucleotide sequence of this molecule has been determined, and the deduced amino acid sequence has revealed extensive homology with homologues of other ...

Comparative Effects of Hycanthone in Schistosoma Mansoni and Schistosoma Japonicum

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1977
After in vitro hycanthone treatment followed by a 20-hour incubation in drug-free medium, Schistosoma mansoni were still resistant to labeling by a fluorescent analog of acetylcholine. S. japonicum, in contrast with the hycanthone sensitive species, showed prompt reversal of the blocking effects of hycanthone on fluorescent labeling.
