HLA-typing in Schistosoma japonicum infection
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1988Abstract : HLA-typing was recently performed on 41 schistosomiasis patients and 25 uninfected Filipino controls to investigate why patients have either cerebral or hepatic involvement. Neither the following tests HLA-B16, HLA-B40, nor other HLA-typing were significantly frequent in patients with cerebral schistosomiasis.

Schistosoma japonicum infection in pregnant mice
Journal of Helminthology, 1999Ten 1-week and ten 2-weeks pregnant female NMRI mice were experimentally exposed to 70 Schistosoma japonicum cercariae. Ten littermice from each group were examined for worms by perfusion 4, 6 and 8 weeks post infection. Although the mothers (n = 15) were found infected with 15.5 ± 13.4 worms at perfusion 6 and 7 weeks post infection, no worms were ...

Schistosoma mansoni and Schistosoma japonicum: Utilization of amino acids
International Journal for Parasitology, 1972Abstract Bruce J. I. , Ruff M. D. , Belusko R. J. and Werner J. K. 1972. Schistosoma mansoni and Schistosoma japonicum : utilization of amino acids. International Journal for Parasitology 2: 425–430. The production of 14 CO 2 from 12 labeled amino acids by S. mansoni and S. japonicum was studied.

Host Identification by Schistosoma japonicum Cercariae
The Journal of Parasitology, 1987Attachment, the first phase of host identification by Schistosoma japonicum cercariae, can occur in 2 different ways. Cercariae clinging to the water surface simply swing around and transfer to the host skin. Free-swimming cercariae behave like S. mansoni: upon touching a substrate, they switch from tailward to forward movement, swim in an arc, and ...

Nutritional Requirements of Schistosoma japonicum Eggs
The Journal of Parasitology, 1983Newly laid eggs of Schistosoma japonicum were cultured in a serum-free, chemically defined medium, RPMI 1640, which contained 20 amino acids, glutathione, 11 vitamins, and glucose in a balanced salt solution. The requirements for these components in the nutrition of the eggs was investigated by the deletion of single component from the medium.

Schistosoma mansoni and Schistosoma japonicum: Oxygen uptake by miracidia
Experimental Parasitology, 1971Abstract The respiration of miracidia of Schistosoma mansoni and the Japanese, Philippine, and Formosan strains of S. japonicum was measured in the presence and absence of 0.001 m glucose at 1 and 5 hr after hatching. Aging increased the oxygen consumption of miracidia of S. mansoni and the Japanese and Formosan strains of S. japonicum when

Origin and evolution of Schistosoma japonicum
Parasitology International, 2003In his hypothesis on the coevolution of Asian schistosomes and snails, Davis implies that the ancestors of the Schistosoma japonicum and S. indicum species group were African and arrived in Asia via the Indian plate. This paper briefly reviews molecular phylogenetic relationships among species of the genus Schistosoma to test Davis' theory about the ...

Comparative Effects of Hycanthone in Schistosoma Mansoni and Schistosoma Japonicum
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1977After in vitro hycanthone treatment followed by a 20-hour incubation in drug-free medium, Schistosoma mansoni were still resistant to labeling by a fluorescent analog of acetylcholine. S. japonicum, in contrast with the hycanthone sensitive species, showed prompt reversal of the blocking effects of hycanthone on fluorescent labeling.
