Schistosome serine protease inhibitors: parasite defense or homeostasis?
Serpins are a structurally conserved family of macromolecular inhibitors found in numerous biological systems. The completion and annotation of the genomes of Schistosoma mansoni and Schistosoma japonicum has enabled the identification by phylogenetic ...

Schistosoma mansoni: Insulin independence
Several authors have reported that schistosomes are affected by host hormones, including insulin. We found that insulin in a 10,000-fold range of concentrations failed to affect glucose consumption of males, females, or pairs of Schistosoma mansoni incubated for periods up to 24 hr.

Experimental schistosomiasis in the Common Marmoset Callithrix jacchus
In order to evaluate Callithrix jacchus as an animal model for mansoni schistosomiasis, a group of 10 male animals were once percutaneously exposed to 250 cercariae of the Schistosoma mansoni SLM (São Lourenço da Mata) strain.

The Causal Role of IL-4 and IL-13 in Schistosoma mansoni Pulmonary Hypertension.
RATIONALE The etiology of schistosomiasis-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a major cause of PAH worldwide, is poorly understood. Schistosoma mansoni exposure results in prototypical type-2 inflammation.

Repurposing of anticancer drugs: in vitro and in vivo activities against Schistosoma mansoni
BackgroundDrug discovery for the neglected tropical disease schistosomiasis has a high priority. Anticancer drugs, especially protein kinase inhibitors, might serve as a starting point for drug discovery owing to the importance of protein kinases in ...
