Chapter 7 Preparation of Protoplasts of Schizosaccharomyces pombe

1978
Publisher Summary The chapter describes a method by which cells of S. pombe are completely and efficiently converted into protoplasts. The method requires a mixture of α-1,3-glucanase,exo-β-1, 3 glucanase and snail enzymes. The quantitative preparation of protoplasts from two strains of Schizosacchuromyces by the combined action of snail gut ...

Recovery, Repair, and Mutagenesis in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

1985
Publisher Summary This chapter presents an account of recovery, repair, and mutation processes in the fission yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe . Some of the aspects such as the cell cycle, macromolecular synthesis, and cell synchrony are documented to give an idea of the potential and experimental usefulness of S. pombe .

X-ray tomography of Schizosaccharomyces pombe

Differentiation, 2007
The genetic tractability of the unicellular yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe has resulted in it becoming an important model organism for the study of many eukaryotic cellular processes, in particular cell division. Over the past few years much progress has been made toward understanding the mechanisms that regulate eukaryotic cell division and the ...

The microtubule organizing centers of Schizosaccharomyces pombe

1999
Publisher Summary The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe ( S. pombe ) is assuming a higher profile in the study of diverse aspects of microtubule function during mitosis and in cellular morphogenesis. The study of S. pombe makes a major contribution to the understanding of how microtubules can control morphogenesis.

A study of integrative transformation in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1993
Using the one-step gene disruption technique, we studied the effect of various parameters on the disruption frequency (percentage of homologous integrants) and transformation efficiency (number of transformants per microgram of input DNA) of integrative transformation in Schizosaccharomyces pombe. We used suc1 as the target gene for disruption and ura4

Construction of an h +Sstrain of Schizosaccharomyces pombe

Current Genetics, 1990
By spontaneous in vivo integration of a mat2:1 degrees plasmid, containing a Plus (P) cassette, into an h-L MT region of Schizosaccharomyces pombe an h+ strain was obtained which neither mutates to h- nor to h90. Southern blotting showed that it possesses the same mating-type (MT) configuration as h-S except that P information resides in both cassettes.
