Design of a Schlieren system for low enthalpy hypersonic flow visualization in GHIBLI facility and development of image processing and quantitative analysis codes with preliminary application to sonic free jet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
GHIBLI is a 2 MW arc-jet hypersonic facility located at CIRA premises in Capua (Italy), designed for testing candidate TPS materials for re-entry vehicles. Measured data during cold flow tests, i.e.

Experiments on the Richtmyer–Meshkov instability: single-scale perturbations on a continuous interface [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
We report on experiments to measure the shock-induced growth of sinusoidal perturbations on thick interfaces separating two gases of different densities. The results show that the growth rates are reduced as the interface thickness is increased.

Multidirectional Motion Strategy of Miniature Water Surface Robot Actuated by Single Exciter

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A novel multidirectional motion strategy on the water surface based on a single exciter is proposed, and a single‐exciter single‐plate module is developed for actuation. The driving forces generation mechanism of the module is revealed from the perspective of the asymmetric surface wave field.

Analysis of the Colored Schlieren for Visualization of Ultrasonic Waves [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1974
Using white light in the schlieren technique of visualizing ultrasonic fields produces brilliantly colored images. The color seen depends on the charge of optical path length induced by the sound field. Prediction of the colors is possible by the CIE Tristimulus System. Chromaticity diagrams are presented for some standard cases.

Novel murine closed‐loop auditory stimulation paradigm elicits macrostructural sleep benefits in neurodegeneration

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 2, April 2025.
Summary Boosting slow‐wave activity (SWA) by modulating slow waves through closed‐loop auditory stimulation (CLAS) might provide a powerful non‐pharmacological tool to investigate the link between sleep and neurodegeneration. Here, we established mouse CLAS (mCLAS)‐mediated SWA enhancement and explored its effects on sleep deficits in neurodegeneration,

Real-time quantitative Schlieren imaging by fast Fourier demodulation of a checkered backdrop

open access: yes, 2018
A quantitative synthetic Schlieren imaging (SSI) method based on fast Fourier demodulation is presented. Instead of a random dot pattern (as usually employed in SSI), a 2D periodic pattern (such as a checkerboard) is used as a backdrop to the refractive ...

Schlieren visualization of water natural convection in a vertical ribbed channel [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2015
Schlieren techniques are valuable tools for the qualitative and quantitative visualizations of flows in a wide range of scientific and engineering disciplines. A large number of schlieren systems have been developed and documented in the literature; majority of applications involve flows of gases, typically air.

Ro5‐4864, a ligand of the mitochondrial translocator protein, protects against heart failure in mice via regulation of the p62‐Keap1‐Nrf2 axis

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Graphical abstract of the proposed Ro5‐4864 mechanism of action via p62‐Keap1‐Nrf2 axis in heart failure. TSPO, the 18‐kDa mitochondrial translocator protein of the outer mitochondrial membrane, can directly interact with p62 (also known as SQSTM1), which is crucial for the degradation of damaged mitochondria by autophagy ...

Methods for Setting Device Specifications for Analog In‐Memory Computing Inference

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
Non‐volatile memories (NVMs) are being developed for analog in‐memory computing for energy‐efficient, high‐speed deep learning inference. As technology is moving to industry adoption, a method to define required NVM specifications is critical for improving performance and reducing manufacturing cost.
