Integrating Single‐Cell Transcriptome‐Wide Mendelian Randomization and Differentially Expressed Gene Analyses to Prioritize Dynamic Immune‐Related Drug Targets for Cancers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by evidence triangulation, a new sensitivity method called MR‐DEG is developed, which uses the differentially expressed gene (DEG) results as additional evidence to minimize pleiotropic effects and strengthen Mendelian randomization (MR) causal estimates. Using dynamic single‐cell expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) as an example, it is

Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Drug Target Discovery for Chronic Widespread Pain: A Large Proteogenomic Study

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plasma proteomics is leveraged to decode the biological underpinnings of chronic widespread pain. A nested machine learning framework integrates proteomic signatures, prospective outcomes, and Mendelian randomization to uncover 18 causal proteins.

Community Versus Assimilation: A Study In American Assimilation at Saint Joseph\u27s Indian Industrial School [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
No govemment policy has had more of an impact on American Indians than the boarding school movement of the early to mid-twentieth century. This movement isolated American Indian children from their homes and communities and attempted to assimilate them ...

Nanofluid‐Enhanced Laser Lithotripsy Using Conducting Polymer Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Incorporating polymeric nanoparticles, PEDOT:PSS, with a high near‐infrared absorption coefficient into the fluid significantly enhances the dusting efficiency of Ho:YAG laser lithotripsy for kidney stone treatment. This approach, which leverages the control of light‐matter interactions, integrates seamlessly with the current laser lithotripsy workflow.

Simulating the impacts of cash transfers on poverty and school attendance: The case of Cambodia [PDF]

open access: yes
Using the Cambodia Socioeconomic Survey 2004 and employing micro-static simulation techniques, we measure the potential impacts of cash transfer programs for children to identify targeted groups that will have the most effect on poverty and school ...

Mitochondria‐Localized Nestin Protects Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Senescence by Maintaining Cristae Structure and Function

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nestin localizes to the mitochondrial IMS through its MTS and the TOM20 import machinery. Within the mitochondria, Nestin interacts with Mic60 via its C‐terminal Tail3 domain. Loss of mitochondrial Nestin disrupts cristae architecture, leading to mitochondrial swelling, bioenergetic dysfunction, and ultimately the senescence of hMSCs.

Empirical analysis of school attainment/progression in Cameroon. [PDF]

open access: yes
In Cameroon, only 1/3 of children progress to secondary education. This paper estimates a sequential model of school attainment to investigate the role played by family background and individual characteristics in keeping children at school up to the end

Math in Motion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Everything we know about the universe rests on the foundation of mathematics. Somehow, though, the magic of mathematics – the true power of numbers and their beautiful wildness – gets lost in math class.
