Different clinical presentation of intralabyrinthine schwannomas – a systematic review

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2019
Introduction: Intralabyrinthine schwannoma is a rare, benign tumor that affects the most terminal portions of the vestibular and cochlear nerves. This tumor can be classified into 10 subtypes, according to its inner ear location.

Case report: A tracheobronchial schwannoma in a child

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports, 2020
Neurogenic tumors of the tracheobronchial tree are extremely rare, and these include neurofibroma and schwannoma. The rare schwannoma most frequently is reported in adults. We will report an endobronchial schwannoma in an 11-year-old boy.

Recombinant Human Neuregulin1‐β1 Significantly Reduces Schwannoma Growth in Mice

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
rhNRGβ1‐Replacement‐Therapy: Under physiological conditions, NRGβ1 is expressed on axons (in orange), where it activates ERBB2 receptors, facilitating successful nerve regeneration following injury. However, loss of NF2 leads to a reduction in NRGβ1‐expression and increased ErbB2 levels on Schwann cells (in green), which contributes to schwannoma ...

A Rare and Unexpected Reason for Unilateral Epistaxis: Nasal Septal Schwannoma

open access: yesCase Reports in Otolaryngology, 2020
Nasal septal schwannoma is a rare tumor. It causes complaints such as nasal congestion, nosebleeds, and headaches. There are many diseases such as nasal polyps, antrochoanal polyp, chronic rhinosinusitis, concha bullosa, inverted papilloma, and retention

Schwannoma of the Heart

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2014
We present a case of a 55-year-old woman who complained of chest pain at rest. A mass was detected adjacent to her left atrium. The mass was completely excised, and a pathologic examination revealed it to be a schwannoma. Schwannomas are tumors that originate in the nerve sheath and are rarely detected in the heart.

A proteasome-resistant fragment of NIK mediates oncogenic NF-κB signaling in schwannomas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Schwannomas are common, highly morbid and medically untreatable tumors that can arise in patients with germ line as well as somatic mutations in neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2).

Noradrenergic and cholinergic innervation of the normal human heart and changes associated with cardiomyopathy

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Autonomic nerves are crucial in cardiac function and pathology. However, data on the distribution of cholinergic and noradrenergic nerves in normal and pathologic human hearts is lacking. Nonfailing donor hearts were pressure‐perfusion fixed, imaged, and dissected. Left ventricular cardiomyopathy samples were also obtained.

Cystic schwannoma mimicking a second branchial cleft cyst on computed tomography

open access: yesMedical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Patil University, 2015
Schwannoma of the neck is a relatively uncommon tumor. Schwannoma present as insidious, slow-growing, painless masses, characteristics that often lead to an incorrect diagnosis. Cystic schanommas among schanommas are a rare entity.

Subtotal resection of vestibular schwannoma: evaluation with Ki-67 measurement, magnetic resonance imaging, and long-term observation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Purpose The aim of this study was to compare the postoperative clinical and radiological data of patients with vestibular schwannomas who were initially managed by near total resection (NTR) or subtotal resection (STR).
