Pneumocystis carinii Pneumonia in scid/scid Mice
1989Mice homozygous for the autosomal recessive mutation severe combined immune deficiency (scid) on Chromosome 16 have proved to be a unique resource in many areas of biomedical research. Since the original report that hdmozygosity for scid causes a severe deficiency in numbers of functional T and B cells accompanied by a lack of both humoral and cell ...

Equine SCID: mechanistic analysis and comparison with murine SCID
Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 1998V(D)J rearrangement is the molecular mechanism by which an almost limitless number of unique immune receptors is generated. V(D)J rearrangement involves two DNA breaks and religations resulting in two DNA joints; coding and signal joints. If V(D)J recombination is impaired (as in murine SCID (C.B-17 mouse] or RAG [Recombinase Activating Genes ...

T and B lymphocyte-deficient mice homozygous for the severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mutation can be immunologically engrafted with human lymphocytes. However, low levels of human peripheral blood mononuclear cell engraftment are commonly observed, impeding full use of this model. We now demonstrate that strain background in mice homozygous for

The scid mutation occurred in the C.B-17Icr (C.B-17) inbred strain, an immunoglobulin heavy chain (Igh) congenic partner strain of BALB/cAnlcr (BALB/c) . The C.B-17 strain was derived from the 13th backcross generation of the original C.B stock of M. Potter.
