Versatile Direct (Hetero)Arylation Polymerization of Electro-Deficient Unsubstituted Thiazolo[5,4-d]Thiazole: A Tool to Lower the LUMO Level. [PDF]

open access: yesMacromol Rapid Commun
An unsubstituted thiazolo[5,4‐d]thiazole (TzTz) unit is used to synthesize a series of novel semiconducting polymers via eco‐friendly direct arylation polymerization. These TzTz‐based copolymers, with various electron‐withdrawing comonomers, display optical bandgaps of 1.5–2.0 eV and strong thermal stability.

Impact of intracellular radionuclide distribution in a Monte Carlo biophysical 3D multi-cellular model for targeted alpha therapy. [PDF]

open access: yesMed Phys
Abstract Background To understand and predict the therapeutic efficacy of targeted alpha therapy (TAT), nano‐ and microdosimetry are needed to consider the very heterogeneous dose deposition at cellular and subcellular levels. Purpose The objective of this study is to theoretically evaluate the importance of cell internalization of alpha‐emitters on ...

Impact of the Covid‐19 pandemic on gestational weight gain: A French cohort study

open access: yesReproductive, Female and Child Health, Volume 2, Issue 2, Page 43-50, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Introduction To investigate whether the quarantine periods due to the COVID‐19 pandemic were associated with excessive gestational weight gain. Methods This single‐centre retrospective observational French cohort study studied 23 774 pregnant women from 2017 to 2020 who had an obstetrical follow‐up consultation with a weight measurement in ...

Modelling emotion, perfecting heart: disassembling technologies of affect with an android bodhisattva in Japan

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, Volume 29, Issue 1, Page 103-123, March 2023., 2023
Abstract As part of a surge in technologies with so‐called ‘artificial emotional intelligence’, robotics engineers and Buddhist monks in Japan have developed an android bodhisattva to deliver teachings at a popular Zen temple. Like many recent robots in Japan, the android is designed to impact visitors’ feelings.

Disrupting ‘a man's world’: gender, technology, and class in Vietnam's global heavy industry

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, Volume 29, Issue 1, Page 163-182, March 2023., 2023
Abstract Only rarely is Vietnam's global heavy industry studied from an anthropological perspective in either its gender or its class dimensions. This article contributes new insights into the ways in which the interagential dynamics of gender and technology from shopfloor to engineer offices coproduce social orders in contesting and perpetuating ...

The role of internal stresses, temperature, and water on the swelling of pigmented epoxy systems during hygrothermal aging

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 139, Issue 46, December 10, 2022., 2022
Pigmented epoxy systems can swell under the action of temperature or water inducing the creation or modification of internal stresses initially present in the material. During a hygrothermal aging process, the polymer material is sensitive to both water and temperature changes.

The effect of insects on elephant‐induced tree damage within a small, fenced reserve in South Africa

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 3, Page 641-647, September 2022., 2022
Abstract African savanna elephants (Loxodonta africana) have been recognised as ecosystem engineers, where their feeding habits have been shown to alter landscapes. Within small, fenced reserves, studies exploring elephant damage on trees and their recovery have overlooked secondary damages that could be contributing to tree mortality.
