In this paper, we present a part of the parallelization of a Matlab-like tool called \sci\ using high performance numerical libraries and different approaches based either on the duplication of \sci\ processes or using computational servers. This tool allows to perform high level operations on distributed matrices in a metacomputing environment.

As explained in Chapter 1, there are two ways to work within Scilab. The first way is to work at the command line by typing one command at a time. The partition titled ”Scilab 6.0.0 Console” (shown in the middle part of Figure 1-1) presents the command line where the cursor is shaped as −− >. You can write commands here for immediate execution.

In ScicosLab, most Scicos functionalities are developed in the Scilab language. This is very useful because it allows Scilab and Scicos to interact in many different ways, thereby mutually enriching their functionalities. We have already seen that Scicos relies heavily on the Scilab language.

Modeling and Simulation in Scilab
2009One of the fundamental problems in many areas of science and engineering is the problem of modeling and simulation. Scilab provides a large array of tools for developing and simulating models of several types. For several of these tools it is possible to use them with abbreviated commands and default values of some parameters.

In this article we show the work done to port Scilab on an heterogeneous platform used in the H4H project. The platform is made with parallel nodes composed of a GPU accelerator connected to a standard processor. Such platform offers a lot of performance optimization opportunities.
