Inorganic scintillation crystals for neutron detection
2013 3rd International Conference on Advancements in Nuclear Instrumentation, Measurement Methods and their Applications (ANIMMA), 2013Inorganic scintillators play an important role in the detection and spectroscopy of gamma and X-rays, as well as in neutrons and charged particles. For a variety of applications, new inorganic scintillation materials are being studied. New scintillation detector applications arise continuously and, consequently, the interest in the introduction of new ...

Scintillation properties and radioactive contamination of CaWO4 crystal scintillators
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2005Abstract Energy resolution, α / β ratio and the pulse-shape discrimination ability of the CaWO4 crystal scintillators were studied. The radioactive contamination and background of the crystals were measured in the Solotvina Underground Laboratory. Despite a rather high level of radioactive impurities, the background rate of the CaWO4 detector

Scintillating Crystals in a Radiation Environment
Nuclear Physics B - Proceedings Supplements, 1995The unique physics capability of a crystal calorimeter is the result of their superp energy resolution, hermetic coverage and fine granularity. However, its energy resolution can only be maintained in situ if the crystal is sufficiently radiation hard. This report summarizes the performance of large size crystals (CsI, BaF 2 , CeF 3 , BGO and PbWO 4 )

Luminescence Kinetics of PbWO4 Scintillator Crystals
physica status solidi (a), 1997The kinetics of luminescence of PbWO 4 single crystals is investigated by utilizing synchrotron radiation and selective photoexcitation of intrinsic luminescence. The dynamics of excitation is interpreted in terms of thermally activated depletion of radiative centers and their repopulation from trapping centers resulting in slow components of ...

Scintillation response of Y3Al5O12:Pr3+ single crystal scintillators
Radiation Measurements, 2013Abstract In this paper we present the photoluminescence (PL) and scintillation response of Pr 3+ -doped Y 3 Al 5 O 12 (YAG:Pr) single crystals grown by the Czochralski method with different Pr 3+ concentrations of 0.16, 0.33, and 0.65 mol%. PL spectra and decay curves were measured for both the fast 5d → 4f and slow 4f → 4f emissions.

Thin-Crystal Scintillation Counter
Radiology, 1959The preoperative detection and identification of many types of lesions such as mediastinal tumors (1) have depended upon the use of the Geiger-Muller counter. The conventional scintillation counter has been generally inapplicable due to its size and weight.

CsI(Na) scintillation crystals
Physics Letters A, 1967Abstract The light output of CsI(Na) scintillation crystals shows a maximum at 0.01 mol% sodium. Optimum growing conditions for crystals with this concentration are indicated.

Amplification of scintillations in mixed crystals
SPIE Proceedings, 1999ABSTRACT A mechanism, explaining amplification of scintillations in mixed alurninates activated by cerium ions (Y1Lu)A1O3:Ce (0 x 1) is proposed. Quasichern.ical reactions of ions Ce3 and Ce4 with holes and electrons causing scintillations areconsidered.

New prospects in scintillating crystals
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2001We investigated infrared scintillation in some crystals. We also measured time response and temperature behavior of the ultraviolet scintillation of a crystal containing Yb. Since the response is very fast and the light yield is good, this scintillating crystal (Yb:YAG) is suitable for application to low-energy neutrino detection.

Development of novel scintillator crystals
Journal of Crystal Growth, 2006Abstract Development, preparation and characterization of several new single-crystal scintillators based on binary and complex oxide or fluoride host crystals is reviewed. The micropulling-down technique was used to efficiently screen and optimize the material composition.
