Laue Diffraction Using Scintillator Detectors

open access: yesPhysics Procedia, 2015
AbstractThe Fast Acquisition Laue Camera for Neutrons (FALCON) is a thermal neutron Laue diffractometer at HZB in Berlin. The instrument comprises two scintillator plate detectors coupled to four iCCD cameras each. One detector is placed in the backscattering position, enabling neutrons to pass through the centre of the detector box.

Flexible and High‐Performance Perovskite‐Polymer Composites for Dual X‐Ray and Proton Direct Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A polymer–perovskite composite obtained by mechanochemical synthesis enables thick, tunable active layers for efficient absorption of highly penetrating ionizing radiation. Vertical‐electrode detectors achieve low X‐ray detection limits and high sensitivity direct 5 MeV proton sensing.

Scintillation Type Alpha-Particle Detector

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 1950
A portable scintillation detector for alpha-survey work is described. The instrument can detect as few as 16 alpha-counts (32 disintegrations) per minute because of the virtual elimination of spurious background. The upper limit of 50,000 counts per minute is not inherent and can be raised by appropriate circuit changes. The instrument is stable and is

Nanocrystal Quality–Controlled Scintillation in Porous YAG:Ce Aerogels

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature thermal treatment of YAG:Ce nanoscintillator aerogels increases light yield under ionizing radiation by up to eightfold without affecting timing performance. Additionally, low‐temperature atmospheric treatments reversibly modify the cerium oxidation state, revealing strong defect sensitivity and offering new strategies to optimize ...

An AI‐Enabled All‐In‐One Visual, Proximity, and Tactile Perception Multimodal Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Targeting integrated multimodal perception of robots, an AI‐enabled all‐in‐one multimodal sensor is proposed. This sensor is capable of perceiving three types of modalities, including vision, proximity, and tactility. By toggling an ultraviolet light and adjusting the camera focus, it switches smoothly between multiple perceptual modalities, enabling ...

Study of Light Backgrounds from Relativistic Electrons in Air Light-Guides

open access: yes, 2018
The MOLLER experiment proposed at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility plans a precision low energy determination of the weak mixing angle via the measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in the scattering of high energy longitudinally

The UA2 scintillating fibre detector

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1988
Abstract The UA2 experiment at CERN is currently upgrading its apparatus to take advantage of the higher accelerator luminosity to be provided from November 1987. The first large particle tracking detector using scintillating optical fibres will form a major part of this upgrade. The detector is built by the Cambridge, CERN and Saclay groups.
