Influence of depth of interaction upon the performance of scintillator detectors.
The uncertainty in time of particle detection within a scintillator detector, characterised by the coincidence time resolution (CTR), is explored with respect to the interaction position within the scintillator crystal itself.

Cherenkov and scintillation light separation in organic liquid scintillators [PDF]
The CHErenkov / Scintillation Separation experiment (CHESS) has been used to demonstrate the separation of Cherenkov and scintillation light in both linear alkylbenzene (LAB) and LAB with 2g/L of PPO as a fluor (LAB/PPO). This is the first such demonstration for the more challenging LAB/PPO cocktail and improves on previous results for LAB.

Studies of scintillator response to 60 MeV protons in a proton beam imaging system
A Proton Beam Imaging System (ProBImS) is under development at the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN). The ProBImS will be used to optimize beam delivery at IFJ PAN proton therapy facilities, delivering two-dimensional ...

Cherenkov and Scintillation Separation in Water-Based Liquid Scintillator using an LAPPD [PDF]
This manuscript describes measurements of water-based liquid scintillators (WbLS), demonstrating separation of the Cherenkov and scintillation components using the fast timing response of a Large Area Picosecond Photodector (LAPPD). Additionally, the time profiles of three WbLS mixtures, defined by the relative fractions of scintillating compound, are ...

The scintillating grid is a recently discovered visual illusion, created by superimposing white discs on the intersections of orthogonal gray bars on a black background. Even though the entire display is stationary, observers perceive dark spots appearing and disappearing rapidly within some of the white discs.

The Quest for the Ideal Scintillator for Hybrid Phototubes [PDF]
In this paper we present the results of extensive studies of scintillators for hybrid phototubes with luminescent screens. The results of the developments of such phototubes with a variety of scintillators are presented. New scintillator materials for such kind of application are discussed.

Scintillation of Partially Coherent Light in Time Varying Complex Media [PDF]
We present a theory for wave scintillation in the situation with a time-dependent partially coherent source and a time-dependent randomly heterogeneous medium. Our objective is to understand how the scintillation index of the measured intensity depends on the source and medium parameters.

Using in situ X‐ray tomography, the phase transformation and microstructural evolution of a copper sulfide cathode in solid‐state batteries is 3D visualized and characterized. Copper inclusions generate after phase transformation and the electrode cracks have a strong preferential orientation within the x‐y plane of the cell.
