Abstract Marine animal forests (MAFs) are dense aggregations of habitat‐forming species that constitute essential habitats for diverse taxa including fish. However, the study of MAFs and their associated fauna remains largely skewed to their shallowest occurrence, above 30 m depth.

A note on the infection of Scomberomorus brasiliensis (Osteichthyes, Scombridae) by Kudoa sp. (Myxozoa: Multivalvulida) [PDF]
The infection of Scomberomorus brasiliensis by the myxozoan Kudoa sp. is reported. The parasites formed plasmodiae inside the skeletal muscle fibres. The spores were quadrate in apical view and bell-like shaped in lateral view, containing four equally sized more or less rounded polar capsules.

There are many environmental DNA (eDNA) sources within and around a seabird nest. These DNA traces from soil, plant material, feathers, feces, and other nest components enable detection of a wide range of taxa, including plants, fungi, insects, arachnids, mollusks, reptiles, and other vertebrates. Here, we used DNA from nest box feces to obtain signals

Active Versus Passive eDNA Sampling Across Depths at a Tropical Fish‐Aggregating Device (FAD)
Sampling at a fish aggregating device over three consecutive days using active and passive samplers detected a total of 39 fish operational taxonomic units (OTUs). Of these, 25 OTUs were shared between the two sampling approaches. The composition of detected OTUs varied among days and between sampler types.

Reconstructing Early Human Subsistence in Near Oceania: New Insights From Matenkupkum and Matenbek
ABSTRACT The colonization of New Ireland ~44–40,000 years ago represents the earliest evidence of human occupation in Near Oceania. Yet, the precise impacts of climatic changes on subsistence strategies during the Late Pleistocene, Last Glacial Maximum, and Holocene remain poorly understood.

Molecular Identification and Morphological Development of Auxis (Scombridae) Larvae
Eleven individual larvae (3.6-8.0 mm notochord length, NL) were collected from the southern East Sea of Korea in July, 2010, and the adjacent Sea of Jeju Island in August, 2011. Five individuals were identified using mitochon-drial DNA cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences (494 base pairs).
