Dinophysis acuta in Scottish Coastal Waters and Its Influence on Diarrhetic Shellfish Toxin Profiles

open access: yesToxins, 2018
Diarrhetic shellfish toxins produced by the dinoflagellate genus Dinophysis are a major problem for the shellfish industry worldwide. Separate species of the genus have been associated with the production of different analogues of the okadaic acid group ...

Cold Orthogonal Translation: A Psychrophilic Pyrrolysyl‐tRNA Synthetase Boosts Genetic Code Expansion in E. coli

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Orthogonal translation systems (OTSs) enable site‐specific incorporation of non‐canonical amino acids (ncAAs) and are central to genetic code expansion. Current engineering strategies typically rely on hyperstable aminoacyl tRNA synthetase (aaRS) scaffolds to tolerate destabilizing mutations required for substrate diversification.

Scottish Enterprise : the basis of a Scottish solution to Scottish problems? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The Prime Minister's speech to the CBI in Scotland in September 1988 heralded the start of the most radical change in Government policy towards the sponsorship of economic development in Scotland for a generation. Like many such changes it commenced with much noise and little that was in any way cerebral.

A Perspective on the Applications of Triphasic Gas Storage in Electrochemical Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gas storage in microporous materials positioned locally at an electrode or electrocatalyst surface enhances electrochemical processes. Abstract Microporous materials store gases under dry conditions (e.g., hydrogen or oxygen via physisorption), but in some cases microporous materials also show triphasic (e.g., in a solid|gas|liquid system) gas storage ...

Cobalt Single‐Atom Catalysts for Ultrafast Sulfamethoxazole Degradation: Unveiling the Chloride‐Ion‐Enhanced Formation of Co(IV)=O

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An atomically dispersed Co–N4 single‐atom catalyst rapidly activates peroxymonosulfate to remove the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole from water. Common ions have little impact, but chloride dramatically speeds degradation by promoting a high‐valent Co(IV) = O oxidant via in situ HOCl–catalyst electron transfer.

Flexoelectricity in Photoconversion: Fundamentals, Materials, and Outlooks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical bending of a flexible cantilever induces a strain gradient in the photoactive material. The resulting flexoelectric field couples with photovoltaic and photoconductive effects, modulating charge generation, separation, and collection. A comparative analysis of oxide perovskites, halide perovskites, and two‐dimensional materials is presented,

Rethinking Little Leaguer’s Elbow: Are Radiographs Missing the Real Injury?

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine
Background: Medial elbow pain is a common complaint in youth baseball players. In the setting of normal radiographs, skeletally immature athletes are often diagnosed with medial epicondyle apophysitis (Little Leaguer’s Elbow).

DOES A COMBINED INTRA-ARTICULAR AND EXTRA-ARTICULAR ACL RECONSTRUCTION EFFECT EXTERNAL KNEE VALGUS MOMENT ASYMMETRY?

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2019
Introduction: Peak external knee valgus moment can predict future ACL injury and is, often times, asymmetric following anatomic intra-articular ACL reconstruction.
