Investigating the scour at piers of successive bridges with debris accumulation

open access: yesJournal of Infrastructure Preservation and Resilience
Bridge scour around piers and abutments poses a significant threat to bridge stability, particularly in dynamic river environments like the Tigris River in Baghdad.

Direct numerical simulation of the oscillatory flow around a sphere resting on a rough bottom

open access: yes, 2017
The oscillatory flow around a spherical object lying on a rough bottom is investigated by means of direct numerical simulations of continuity and Navier-Stokes equations.

Update on Ouratea cidiana Sastre (Ochnaceae), a microendemic species from the Amazon: enlightening the identity and conservation status

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Ouratea cidiana (Ochnaceae) is a microendemic shrub species from the Brazilian Amazonia, occurring along the banks of the Trombetas River and restricted to the Cachoeira Porteira region, in western Pará State. Since the original collection nearly forty years ago, no additional records have been made, which is concerning given the continuous decline in ...

Taxonomic novelties in subgenus Euphorbia (Euphorbiaceae) from South India

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Extensive floristic explorations throughout southern India have uncovered some noteworthy taxonomic additions within the subgenus Euphorbia (Euphorbiaceae). Three distinct taxa of Euphorbia are described and illustrated herein as E. sankarensis, E. bahalita and E. tortilis var. mysorensis.

Fire buffers drought impacts on reproduction in a resprouting Mediterranean shrub

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Fire and drought increasingly co‐occur, exposing plants to greater drought stress during post‐fire resprouting. Yet, the effect of this combination of disturbances on plant fitness remains poorly understood. Here, we examine how post‐fire resprouting influences reproductive success under drought conditions in the Mediterranean shrub Anthyllis ...

Catchment conversion to agriculture alters freshwater macroinvertebrate community responses to flow disturbance: results from a replicated in‐stream experiment

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Anthropogenic stressors often co‐occur in ecosystems, but their combined impacts are rarely assessed using field experiments. Press disturbances particularly can reshape community dynamics, altering their capacity to withstand or recover from acute pulse disturbances by modifying response diversity.

Estimation of scour depth at a single non-submerged vertical spur dike under unidirectional currents

open access: yesWater Science and Engineering
Accurately estimating equilibrium scour depths at spur dikes remains challenging due to the complexity of scour around these structures. Scour critically threatens spur dikes built in river estuaries for enhancing navigability and preventing bank erosion.
