The effect of dairy, piggery and wool scour effluents on willow growth and the soil characteristics : a thesis presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Applied Science in Soil Science at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Restrictions on the disposal of agricultural effluents to the waterway means that alternative land based outlets are required in New Zealand. Willow, as a short forest rotation, represents a significant land use that could produce a high dry matter and ...

Investigations on scour development around a gravity foundation for offshore wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Due to insufficient insights about the scour development around the STRABAG gravity foundation, the Franzius-Institute conducted small- and large-scale physical model tests in wave flumes on a scale of 1:50 and 1:17 in order to investigate the wave ...

Machine‐Learning Decomposition Identifies a Big Two Structure in Human Personality with Distinct Neurocognitive Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using machine learning on a mega‐scale global dataset (n = 1,336,840) reveals a robust personality trait architecture beyond the Big Five. A Big Two model, broadly capturing social engagement and internal mentation, defines a geometric space that links personality to neurocognitive profiles.

A Nanoparticle‐Integrated Complete Manufacturing Pipeline of Chemically Engineered Exosomes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report a novel manufacture technology of chemically engineered exosomes. The four steps of manufacturing, i.e., biogenesis, loading, isolation, and storage, are integrated by the use of a nanoparticle. The manufacture technology incorporates three innovative components, i.e., a new nano‐bio effect, a new composite nanoparticle, and a new isolation ...

Barrier island erosion and overwash study -- effect of seawalls. Volume 2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
This is the second of a pair of reports documenting the effects of storms on beach systems including the presence of seawalls. With the aim of simulating the effects of overwash on barrier islands with seawalls and characterizing their response, a ...

Survival of Casuarina cunninghamiana on a recovering sand-bed stream in the Wollombi Valley of coastal New South Wales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The successful management and restoration of riparian corridors in Australia is currently hindered by our poor understanding of the links between hydrology, fluvial geomorphology and plant population dynamics.

Disorder‐Induced Extremely Low Thermal Conductivity of Graphite Fluoride

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This article investigates the effect of fluorination on the thermal conductivity of graphite fluoride, demonstrating the relationship between structural modification and thermal conductivity in an extreme case. The record‐low through‐plane thermal conductivity measured in exfoliated graphite fluoride flakes was found to correlate with the wide ...

Effect of flow deflectors on local scour around artificial reefs under steady current: Experimental and numerical investigations

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
Artificial reefs are submerged structures used to rehabilitate marine ecosystems and restore fishery resources. Field investigations have revealed that local scour poses a significant threat to these structures in various regions.

The Impact of Scour on Laterally Loaded Piles Bored and Socketed in Marine Clay

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
The majority of long-span bridges and offshore construction in deep water are supported by bored pile foundations. Pile foundations under water will be susceptible to scour, which will pose a significant danger to their safe operation.

Equilibrium Scour-Depth Prediction around Cylindrical Structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Offshore gravity base foundations (GBFs) are often designed with complex geometries. Such structures interact with local hydrodynamics, creating an adverse pressure gradient that is responsible for flow and scour phenomena, including the bed shear stress
