Numerical investigation of scour behavior around complex piers under flood conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment
IntroductionLocal scour at bridge piers is a primary cause resulting bridge failure, a risk that is significantly exacerbated under extreme hydrodynamic events such as floods.MethodsThis study presents a numerical investigation of the scour behavior ...

Laboratory Flume Experiments on the Formation of Spanwise Large Wood Accumulations: Part II—Effect on local scour

open access: yesWater Resources Research, 2019
In this second companion paper, hydraulic model tests were conducted to analyze local scour due to natural spanwise large wood (LW) accumulations. Spanwise accumulations were modeled using a vertical barrier, similar to a LW retention rack in prototype ...

Composite membranes comprising of polymeric and molecular amines embedded in poly(vinyl alcohol) matrices to facilitate CO2/H2 separation

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Polymeric and molecular amines embedded in hygroscopic matrices to facilitate CO2 transport for CO2/H2 separation. Abstract This work dealt with composite membranes comprising of polyvinylamine (PVAm) and triethylenetetramine (TETA) embedded in poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) for CO2/H2 separation via facilitated transport of CO2, where polymeric and ...

Estimation of Scour Depth at Bridge Piers by Using FASTER Model and Experimental Formulas [PDF]

open access: yesمهندسی منابع آب, 2017
Bridges are one of the most important river structures. One of the main causes of bridge failure is local scour at bridge piers. Yearly, Many bridges failed around the world because of disregarding hydraulic factors.

Iron(III)‐loaded cation exchange resin: A dual approach for aqueous H2S removal and biogas desulphurization

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Left: Desulphurization method application. Right: Novel desulphurization method. Abstract The presence of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) in biogas poses significant environmental and operational challenges due to its corrosive and toxic properties. Thus, this study aimed to develop a dual‐function desulphurization system using a cation exchange resin (CIER ...

Acoustic‐driven surface cleaning with millimeter‐sized bubbles at translational resonance

open access: yesDroplet, EarlyView.
Time‐lapse visualization comparing bubble trajectories. The top panel (0 Hz) shows a bubble's linear path under no acoustic forcing, while the bottom panel (50 Hz) demonstrates the oscillatory motion induced by acoustic waves at a resonance mode. This mechanism holds promising potential for applications such as surface cleaning.

Recent advances in boosting interfacial bubble dynamics with external fields

open access: yesDroplet, EarlyView.
External physical fields, including acoustic, magnetic, thermal, mechanical, and optical stimuli, accelerate the entire bubble‐dynamics sequence of nucleation, growth, and detachment. Abstract The efficiency of industrial electrocatalytic reactions depends not only on generating gaseous products but also on their detachment from the catalyst surface ...
