Reduction of scouring depth by using inclined piers
Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2010The aim of this experimental study is to examine the effect of inclination of dual bridge piers on scour depth under clear-water conditions for various uniform flow depths. Duration of 4 h was used in the experiments for each run. Scour depths were measured at four different points around the piers. The depths of local scour around inclined piers were

Prediction of Maximum Scour Depth at Submarine Pipelines
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1991This paper examines and reviews published results relating to local scour around submarine pipelines. It highlights the limitations of existing methods for estimating scour depth at the pipeline. Based on experimental results, the study proposes an empirical function relating the amount of gap flow through the scour hole for given flow conditions. With

Scour Evaluation Program for Toe-Down Depth Assessment
Building Partnerships, 2000An analysis procedure is presented to evaluate the bed scour potential along unlined drainage ways and watercourses for the purpose of determining toe-down depths for hydraulic structures. The stability and safety of drainage structures along watercourses are a major concern for many managing agencies as this involves potential lawsuits and costly ...

Scour Depth at Bridges: Method Including Soil Properties. II: Time Rate of Scour Prediction
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2015Abstract Scour of the soil by flowing water around bridge supports is the number one reason for bridge collapse. Predicting the depth of the scour hole is an integral part of bridge foundation design, as it impacts the depth of the piles. Indeed, the scour depth must be ignored in the vertical and horizontal resistance of the piles. This paper presents

Efficacy of Marine Electrical Resistivity Surveys to Determine Maximum Scour Depth and Scour Infill
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research BoardThe maximum depth of bridge scour typically occurs during peak flood conditions when it is too dangerous to collect measurements. Often, the maximum depth is obscured by additional redeposited sediment. Applied geophysical methods are commonly used to detect the depth of scour infill and estimate maximum scour depth.

Modelling the scour depth near the bridge pier
