This paper outlines the theory of radical farming in scramjets and describes the experimental scramjet model that was designed to investigate it. Experiments were conducted at two conditions; a 3MJ/kg condition corresponding to Mach 7.9 flight at an altitude of 24km and a 4MJ/kg condition corresponding to Mach 9.1 flight at an altitude of 32km.

Effect of a revolved wedge strut induced mixing enhancement for a hydrogen fueled scramjet combustor
, 2021The mixing concept of fuel and air is the burning issue for hypersonic vehicles (scramjet) due to the less resident time of supersonic air in the combustion chamber.

As flight speed increases into the hypersonic regime, the stagnation pressure and temperature inside the engine become so great that, for practical structures of acceptable mass, the flow must pass through the engine at supersonic, rather than subsonic, speeds, hence the term ‘scramjet’ (supersonic combustion ramjet).

Ignition modes of a cavity-based scramjet combustor by a gliding arc plasma
, 2021A gliding arc discharge was employed to ignite an ethylene-fueled scramjet combustor with an inflow speed of Ma = 2.92. Flame chemiluminescence and Schlieren photography were recorded simultaneously with CH∗ emission images and discharge waveforms for ...

Combustion occurs at supersonic speeds in a scramjet engine. Lower air residence time is the factor affecting proper fuel–air mixing, flame propagation and cooling of engine components. This current study includes systematic review of fuel–air mixing inside the combustor through various design changes and augmentations and strides to present at the ...

LES of the Hyshot Scramjet Combustor
48th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting Including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2010With the overall goal to clarify the physics of com pressible (supersonic) combustion, a 3D LES of the HyShot supersonic combustor has been performed and is reported in this paper. HyShot is an (originally) Australian p rogram to assess feasibility of supersonic combustion by means of a ballistic test flight.
