Simulation of a hydrocarbon fueled scramjet exhaust [PDF]

open access: yes
Exhaust nozzle flow fields for a fully integrated, hydrocarbon burning scramjet were calculated for flight conditions of M (undisturbed free stream) = 4 at 6.1 km altitude and M (undisturbed free stream) = 6 at 30.5 km altitude.

Radiant heating tests of several liquid metal heat-pipe sandwich panels [PDF]

open access: yes
Integral heat pipe sandwich panels, which synergistically combine the thermal efficiency of heat pipes and the structural efficiency of honeycomb sandwich construction, were conceived as a means of alleviating thermal stress problems in the Langley ...

CYCLE ANALYSIS OF SCRAMJET ENGINES

open access: yesCYCLE ANALYSIS OF SCRAMJET ENGINES
In this paper, engine cycles for airframe-integrated scramjets employing hydrogen fuel are analyzed to investigate regenerative engine cooling characteristics, required pump exit pressure, and overall engine thrust. An expander cycle and a gas generator(G.G.) cycle are examined. It is found that the engine can function with either of these cycles.

Viscous computations of cold air/air flow around scramjet nozzle afterbody [PDF]

open access: yes
The flow field in and around the nozzle afterbody section of a hypersonic vehicle was computationally simulated. The compressible, Reynolds averaged, Navier Stokes equations were solved by an implicit, finite volume, characteristic based method.

Combustion of hydrogen in a two-dimensional duct with step fuel injectors [PDF]

open access: yes
An investigation of the combustion of hydrogen perpendicularly injected from step fuel injectors into a Mach 2.72, 2100 K vitiated test gas was conducted. The model simulated the flow between the center and side struts of an integrated scramjet module at

Analysis of Scramjet Engine Characteristics

open access: yesAnalysis of Scramjet Engine Characteristics
In a previous report, we compared scramjet engine characteristics of different propellant feed cycles, and discussed engine performances. In this study, we examined a hydrogen fueled airframe-integrated scramjet, considered the cooling of the airframe as well as the engine, and analyzed how engine characteristics depend on such parameters as flight ...
