Modeling Air pollutin Due to Open Burning Of Scrap Tires In Rhinehart USA. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
With approximately one scrap tire being generated per person each year in the USA, scrap tires present a disposal problem. Uncontrolled open burning of tires prodeuces many toxic products of incomplete combustion into the atmosphere.

Fluidized Bed Combustion of Scrap Tires

open access: yes, 1981
This nation disposes of 200,000,000 passenger tires every year. Traditionally, these used tires are disposed of by: (1) open-air incineration, (2) chemical reclamation, and (3) discarding in a dump.

A Geometrically Transient Platform for Bioelectronic Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Minimally invasive bioelectronic implants often compromise performance for smaller sizes. To resolve this optimization dilemma, a wireless bioelectronic implant with a transient geometry is introduced (MiFi). The origami‐inspired device miniaturizes up to sixfold for syringe insertion and autonomously unfolds post‐implantation.

Who benefited from the US tariffs on the Chinese tires? [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the short-run effect of the tariffs on Chinese tires imposed by the US in September 2009. First, we investigated whether the tariffs were beneficial to the US domestic tire industry in terms of employment.

Ultrathin Hydrogel Membranes Inspired by Soap Films Enable Physiologically Relevant Breathing Lung Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A soap‐film inspired strategy enables the fabrication of ultrathin yet robust GelMA‐PAAm membranes for breathing lung culture. The hydrogel membrane supports long‐term cyclic deformation under air‐liquid interface conditions, enabling physiologically relevant breathing motions of engineered lung tissue culture. ABSTRACT Breathing continuously stretches
