Concrete columns confined with scrap tires.

open access: yes, 1999
One possible alternative to conventional transverse reinforcement is to use scrap tires for column confinement. However, there is currently no experimental data available on the effectiveness of scrap tires as confinement reinforcement.

Nano‐Architected Metallic Metamaterial With Enhanced Fatigue Resistance via Dislocation Starvation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoscale Ni single crystals exhibit remarkable fatigue resistance over an order of magnitude higher than that of bulk single crystals through dislocation starvation. By translating this mechanism into geometric nano‐architecture, nano‐architected Ni single‐crystal metamaterials achieve about twice the fatigue resistance of the bulk, despite their ...

Earthships-Scrap Tires Recycling in Building Design

open access: yes, 2011
With rapid development in automobile industry and increasing environment problems, a difficulty confronting many countries is how to recycle scrape tires. The earthship comes out as an effective way to make full use of scrap tires in building design.

Sustainable and Multifunctional Natural Macromolecular Polymers for Aqueous Zn Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We comprehensively review the structure‐function relationships and regulatory mechanism of natural macromolecular polymers in stabilizing zinc anodes at the microscopic and mesoscopic scales. The interactions among polymer structures, optimization strategies, and regulatory mechanisms are discussed systematically summarizing recent related research ...

Deterministic Field‐Free Switching of Perpendicular Magnetization by Bulk Mirror Symmetry Broken Bi1−xSbx (012) with High Spin Hall Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Crystal orientation and domain engineering enable bulk mirror symmetry breaking in Bi1−xSbx, resulting in ultralow current‐induced switching of perpendicular magnetization without an external field. By exploiting single‐domain Bi1−xSbx (012), the authors demonstrate an out‐of‐plane spin Hall conductivity of ∼1.12×105ℏ2eΩ−1m−1$ \sim \!1.12 \ensuremath ...

Use of Scrap Tires as a Substitute of Fine Aggregates in Asphalt Pavement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The management of scrap tires has become a growing problem in recent years. Scrap tires represent one of the several special wastes that are difficult to handle. Thus, there is a need to solve the rubber disposal problem.

Dental Microwear Texture Analysis on Radular Teeth

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
3D microwear textures reveal how gastropod radular teeth respond to controlled abrasive contact. Distinct surface signatures distinguish regular abrasion from fracture‐dominated material removal, showing how mineralized coatings, fibrous cores, and substrate properties jointly shape wear and failure in a biological scraping interface.

Green Manufacturing of UHPFRC Made with Waste Derived from Scrap Tires and Oil Refineries

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Ultrahigh-performance fiber-reinforced cement-based composite (UHPFRC) made with waste derived from scrap tires and oil refineries was tested in this study. The UHPFRC sample exhibited a maximum compressive strength of about 189 MPa at the end of 28 days.
