Advances in Hybrid Icing and Frosting Protection Strategies for Optics, Lens, and Photonics in Cold Environments Using Thin‐Film Acoustic Waves

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article provides a comprehensive overview of fundamentals and recent advances of transparent thin‐film surface acoustic wave technologies on glass substrates for monitoring and prevention/elimination of fog, ice, and frost. Fogging, icing, or frosting on optical lenses, optics/photonics, windshields, vehicle/airplane windows, and solar panel ...

A Novel Approach on Rapid Alloy Development of Tool Steels for Laser Powder Bed Fusion by In Situ Alloying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel approach for alloy development in laser powder bed fusion is introduced. Instead of producing massive samples of one composition at a time, prepressed powder bed samples produced from powder mixtures are processed. Guidelines for the selection of precursor powders are developed.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Distraction From Itch Shows Brainstem Activation Without Reduction in Experimental Itch Sensation

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica, 2017
The central processing of itch is not completely understood. This is the first study to use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to examine the central modulation by distraction of experimentally induced itch.

Cat Scratch Endocarditis

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports
We reported a case of blood culture-negative infective endocarditis on a native valve, where the clinical presentation was exclusively related to extensive cerebral ischemia secondary to multiple systemic septic cardioembolic events. The cause was ascribed to subacute Bartonella henselae infection, presumably transmitted by cat scratch, documented by ...

Fluorinated Graphene‐Coated N95 Respirators for Enhanced Protection against Viral Accumulation and Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a one‐step spray coating approach to coat the fluorinated graphene (FG) nanosheet onto the N95 respirators. The spray‐coated superhydrophobic N95 respirators can effectively repel respiratory droplets off instantaneously and prevent SARS‐CoV‐2 virus accumulation on the surface.

The effect of specifi c relationship between material and coating on tribological and protective features of the product

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2012
Today, parts and tools are increasingly made of composite materials. Realization of specifi c connection between basic material and coating is very important. The quality of coating on products, in terms of wear and resistance to destruction, has a large

Effect of Water Aging on the Mechanical Properties of Hybrid Carbon/Aramid Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the mechanical properties of Carbon/Aramid intraply hybrid fiber‐reinforced Elium composites under 6 months of water aging. After aging, flexural strength decreases by 25.89%, tensile strength by 4.40%, and fracture toughness by 21.56%.
