Surface Modification of the Ti6Al4V Alloy with Silicon Carbonitride Layer Deposited by PACVD Method

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2014
Four different layers of various silicon, carbon and nitrogen contents on the Ti6Al4V alloy and (001)Si wafers have been deposited by means of Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition (PACVD) method.

Scratch Test Studies on the Connection of Al2O3+40%TiO2 Coating with AZ91 Alloy Casting [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Foundry Engineering
The paper presents the results of scratch tests on the connection of the Al2O3+40%TiO2 coating with the AZ91 alloy casting. The Al2O3+40%TiO2 coating was applied to the AZ91 alloy casting using the APS (Atmospheric Plasma Spraying) method. Microstructure

Microstructural aspects of the protective ceramic coatings applied on the surfaces of refractory alloys produced by additive manufacturing

open access: yesManufacturing Review, 2020
The possibility of depositing multi layers made of metals/alloys and high temperature ceramics by electron beam physical evaporation process under high vacuum (EB-PVD) on the surface of a parallelepiped sample made by selective laser melting (SLM) from a

DDX3X induces mesenchymal transition of endothelial cells by disrupting BMPR2 signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Elevated DDX3X expression led to downregulation of BMPR2, a key regulator of endothelial homeostasis and function. Our co‐immunoprecipitation assays further demonstrated a molecular interaction between DDX3X and BMPR2. Notably, DDX3X promoted lysosomal degradation of BMPR2, thereby impairing its downstream signaling and facilitating endothelial‐to ...

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

Xanthan Gum as a Potential Binder for Graphite Anode in Lithium-Ion Batteries

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2017
As an important component of the electrode, the choice of appropriate and favorable binder is significant for fabricating lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries with good cycle stability and C-rates capacity, which are implemented for numerous applications ...

Validation of Proposed Metrics for Two-Body Abrasion Scratch Test Analysis Standards [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The objective of this work was to evaluate a set of standardized metrics proposed for characterizing a surface that has been scratched from a two-body abrasion test. This is achieved by defining a new abrasion region termed Zone of Interaction (ZOI). The

3D U-Net: Learning Dense Volumetric Segmentation from Sparse Annotation

open access: yes, 2016
This paper introduces a network for volumetric segmentation that learns from sparsely annotated volumetric images. We outline two attractive use cases of this method: (1) In a semi-automated setup, the user annotates some slices in the volume to be ...

Down‐regulation of Shh in the hair follicles of mice during chemotherapy‐induced hair loss is mediated by the JAK/STAT1 signaling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We found that during chemotherapy‐induced alopecia (CIA), Sonic hedgehog (Shh) expression significantly decreased in hair follicle Shh+ cells, whereas the Janus‐activated kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (JAK/STAT1) signaling pathway was markedly activated.

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.
