Sea Lice Control I

Journal of Applied Aquaculture, 1999
ABSTRACT An inexpensive, low maintenance light-trap was developed for use in determining the distribution and abundance of marine larvae in regions where conventional methods may not be used. The light trap was a portable system (0.021 m3 total volume) designed to attract positively phototropic animals to a small region of strongest illumination, from ...

Species sensitivity distributions for two widely used anti-sea lice chemotherapeutants in the salmon aquaculture industry.

Science of the Total Environment, 2022
The main objective of the present study is to construct acute aquatic species sensitivity distributions (SSD) and generate proposed HC5 values (i.e.

Development of vaccines against sea lice

Pest Management Science, 2002
AbstractA review of efforts to develop a vaccine against sea lice is presented together with analysis of the rationale behind the approaches and potential future directions. Vaccines against the caligid copepod, Lepeophtheirus salmonis, have the potential to be a cost‐effective means of controlling the infection and avoid many of the disadvantages of ...

Trends in sea lice infestations on chum and pink salmon in the Broughton Archipelago remain unchanged despite removal of finfish aquaculture.

Diseases of Aquatic Organisms
To better understand the relative contributions of sea lice Lepeophtheirus salmonis and Caligus clemensi from farmed and non-farmed sources, infestations with sea lice are described on juvenile chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta and pink salmon O.

Sea lice or subsistence? Peasant multispecies justice in the plantationocene

Environment and Planning E Nature and Space
Sea lice pose serious problems for the fish farming industry, subsistence livelihoods, ecosystem health, and multispecies flourishing. This ethnographic essay examines the reaction of subsistence fishers on Guatemala's Pacific coast to a sea lice ...

Medicines for sea lice

Pest Management Science, 2002
AbstractSea louse (Family Caligidae: genera Caligus and Lepeophtheirus) infection of farmed salmonids represents a significant threat to animal welfare and undermines profitability. Lice may also act as vectors for the transmission of viral and bacterial pathogens.

Sea-lice infection models for fishes

Journal of Mathematical Biology, 2008
As free-living sea-lice larvae are difficult to sample directly, lice abundances on fish have recently been used to study larvae in the water. In the KLV problem, juvenile wild salmon migrate past a salmon farm, and the change of infection with distance along the migration route is used to estimate larvae production from the farm.

Sea‐Cage Aquaculture, Sea Lice, and Declines of Wild Fish

Conservation Biology, 2009
Abstract:  A sea cage, sometimes referred to as a net pen, is an enclosure designed to prevent farm fish from escaping and to protect them from large predators, while allowing a free flow of water through the cage to carry away waste.
