Nonlinear dynamics of sand banks and sand waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Sand banks and sand waves are two types of sand structures that are commonly observed on an off-shore sea bed. We describe the formation of these features using the equations of the fluid motion coupled with the mass conservation law for the sediment ...

Suitability evaluation of the exploitation and utilization of marine sand resources for construction: Taking the east exit of Qiongzhou Strait as an example

open access: yes地质科技通报, 2022
With the rapid development of economy, there is a huge demand for sand and gravel, and the development of marine sand has become a current hot spot. The east exit of Qiongzhou Strait is rich in marine sand resources, and its resource potential is in the ...

MEASUREMENT OF FLOATING SAND PARTICLE CONCENTRATION AND ESTIMATE OF THE FLUX IN SEA SAND MINING AREA

open access: yesDoboku Gakkai Ronbunshu, 2004

Legal regulation on protecting marine environment from sea sand mining impact: a case study of spermonde archipelago

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2021
The dilemma between development interest, economical gain and preserving the marine environment from the implication of sea sand mining activity has been primarily discussed in the last decade. In essence, the sea sand mining which jeopardizes the marine environment occurs due to sand dredging activity which contributes to abrasion, removal of corals ...

Regeneration of sand waves after dredging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Sand waves are large bed waves on the seabed, being a few metres high and lying hundreds of metres apart. In some cases, these sand waves occur in navigation channels.

Experimental study of ore lifting efficiency with mixture of bentonite suspension and sand as a carrier material for deep sea mining

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2021
Abstract Carrier material (mixture of viscous fluid and fine particles, CM) circulation system was proposed to lift up deep sea mineral resources. This study focuses on appropriate mixing proportions of CM for lifting up heavier and coarser ores.

Grain size dependency in the occurrence of sand waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Sandy shallow seas, like the North Sea, are very dynamic. Several morphological features are present on the bed, from small ripples to sand waves and large tidal sandbanks.

Dune Erosion at the German Baltic Coast—Investigation and Analysis of a Large-Scale Field Experiment Compared to Life Dunes

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
A large part of the Baltic Sea coastline in the north-eastern provinces of Germany (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Schleswig-Holstein) is protected by coastal protection dunes, which are constructed and maintained to preserve a quasi-natural beach ...
