Land Surface Parameterization at Exposed Playa and Desert Region to Support Dust Emissions Estimates in Southern California, United States

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Remote sensing technologies provide a unique opportunity to identify ground surfaces that are more susceptible to dust emissions at a large scale. As part of the Salton Sea Air Quality Mitigation Program (SSAQMP) of the Imperial Irrigation District (IID),

A REPORT ON PRESENT SITUATION OF SEA-SAND MINING IN THE WESTERN PART OF JAPAN

open access: yesDoboku Gakkai Ronbunshu, 1994

The Takalar Coastal Community Resistance Movement Rejects The Sea Sand Mining Project For The Reclamation Of The Center Point Of Indonesia

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2023
Abstract The beach reclamation project is carried out through a sand mining process in the middle of the sea. This is claimed to cause vulnerability to environmental damage in the form of coastal abrasion, thus giving rise to a resistance movement from the surrounding community. This qualitative study aims to obtain information about the

Impact of anthropogenic activities on morphological and deposition flux changes in the Pearl River Estuary, China

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The evolution of the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), China in recent decades has been dominated by human activities. Historical admiralty charts and remote sensing images indicated that from 1936 to 2017, the tidal flat area and water area decreased by 23.6 ×

The impact of marine sand mining on sea water quality in Pantai Labu, Deli Serdang Regency, Indonesia

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2020
Abstract Marine sand mining in Pantai Labu in 2008-2009 and 2017-2018 have drawn protests from the local community because they are detrimented. The impact of this marine sand mining results in environmental damage (degradation) of the coast such as abrasion and decreased productivity of marine fisheries due to declining water quality ...

Modelling of wave climate and sediment transport patterns at a tideless embayed beach, Pirita Beach, Estonia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Nearshore sand transport patterns along the tideless, embayed Pirita beach, Tallinn, Estonia, have been investigated utilizing high-resolution modelling of wave processes combined with bathymetric surveys and sediment textural analyses of the nearshore ...

Linear instability mechanisms for sand wave formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A height- and flow-dependent model for turbulent viscosity is employed to explain the generation of sand waves in tidal seas. This new model resolves the problem of excitation of very long waves in sand wave formation, because it leads to damping of the ...
