Global analysis of night marine air temperature and its uncertainty since 1880: the HadNMAT2 Dataset [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
An updated version of the Met Office Hadley Centre’s monthly night marine air temperature dataset is presented. It is available on a 5? latitude-longitude grid from 1880 as anomalies relative to 1961-1990 calendar-monthly climatological average night ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Future developments in surge forecast: probabilistic forecast and future surge statistic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This research investigated how the surge forecast can be improved, moving from a single-deterministic to a probabilistic forecast. Moreover a future storm surge scenario is estimated using new meteorological data: sea level (SL) forecast for the city of

Wind Direction Effect on Sea Surface Emissivity.

open access: yesPapers in Meteorology and Geophysics, 1998
The effect of surface wind direction on sea surface emissivity was studied for wavelengths of 3.7, 8.8, 11, and 12μm. Wind direction is considered for 0°, 45°, 90°, 135°, and 180° from the direction of emitted radiation, while wind speed is changed from 1 to 15m/s. Computation showed that wind direction has little effect on sea surface emissivity ( 60°

Parameterization scheme of the sea surface drag coefficient considering the influence of wave states and sea spray stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
The drag coefficient of the sea surface is crucial for the exchange of momentum between the ocean and atmosphere. The wave state significantly influences the variability of the drag coefficient.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Intensification Trend and Mechanisms of Oman Upwelling During 1993–2018

open access: yesRemote Sensing
The long-term trend of coastal upwelling under global warming has been a research focus in recent years. Based on datasets including sea surface temperature (SST), sea surface wind, air–sea heat fluxes, ocean currents, and sea level pressure, this study ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
